I have a set of “Milano” clay chips that I had made about 8 years ago and they were in a humid basement for several years. I recently started hosting games again and when we used the chips they were chipping like crazy in the edges. Has anyone else ran into this issue? The pics are of the chips before we played the most recent game. We had used them regularly for about 3-4 years straight prior to them sitting in the basement in their case for about 4 years. I’m thinking about throwing in the towel on them and buying a nice set of Paulson Cincinnati horseshoe chips for the game.

China clays break down over time. Some chip as you describe, some experience severe fading, some slowly...well...disintegrate? Point is, eight years is a good long while for a set of China clays. Probably time for something new.

If you want a middle ground, consider getting some of the TINA sets. They're pretty cheap - probably even cheaper than China clays - and will last considerably longer. They are also more customizable. Take a look at this thread for some possibilities, along with others in that sub-forum.

That said, Paulsons are great chips and will last quite a while. As long as you can get what you want at an affordable-to-you price and security isn't any kind of concern, Paulsons will do you fine.

There have been some manufacturers of CC lines that are worse than others. I have seen some Pharaoh's that have disintegrated right on the felt. Ceramics and high end plastics are much more durable.

When I first joined here, I almost bought a set of China Clay Spirit molds that had a lot of use on them. But this is what the green ones looked like, so I passed on the set.

As was said, you got a good run on them. Time to upgrade. You've come to the right place. Welcome to PCF. Get samples and ask lots of questions. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can help you get the right chips for your budget.

Do you have any pictures of the badly chipped chips?

If you dont mind me asking, what did that run you? Where did you find them?
I just bought 2 more racks of those 1s. I really like the colors. I have a bunch of HSI sec 1s that I might unload after getting my HSC 1s.

I just found 3 racks of the $25’s to go with the (1) rack of $25’s in that set. Should get me close to what I need for my game. I really need like 50-75 more of the $100’s.

That set I just bought has way too many 1’s for my needs. I might try and unload a few.

Not sure what you're paying, but if those are horseshoe cincinnatis, I'm pretty sure you can still buy the primary $100s here:

We play 2-5-5 NL holdem with live straddle options and 2-5 PLO with live straddle options as well. 300-1500 buy in. Average buy in is around 1k. Game gets deep. We sit 9 handed and there is a $10 double board PLO bomb pot once a round as well. The game plays like a 5-10 game. Also thanks for the link. I’ll check it out.

I got a really good deal on that set I just bought, so I can spend a little more to finish out the set. I got the 770 chip set for $335 shipped to me (should be here tomorrow). So their prices are a little high but I only need like (50) or so 100’s. I just bought (3) racks of 25’s from a member here. Thanks for the link.

I paid $335 shipped to me (I thought that was a steal!) I was searching fb marketplace and I accidentally typed “Paulson poker chips” into my person search and not in market place and some random guy from WV had them for sale on there and I messaged him and got a deal done.

That is a crazy good price. Almost too good to be true. But the chip market has taken a dive lately, so I guess you found a motivated seller.

Just got those chips in the mail. The guy was legit and the chips are in good shape for being casino used. He was moving and not running a game anymore and he didn’t want to take them with him on the move. I just got them out and did an inventory. They are all there. I ended up paying over 1.5x for (300) $25’s to add to the set than I did for this set.

Finally got a chance to go to my card room. I just spun a couple stacks to take pics of some of the chips. The green and black are holding up better than the red and white. You can see the mess they left at some of the seats and in the dealer tray.

What a killer deal -- I got some $25's off a trade here and even though they are heavily circulated, they shuffle extremely well.
