Hello, all.

I have a question regarding dealing cards to positions that have been eliminated. I’m fairly new to hosting and I was wondering what the procedure is for when someone is eliminated in a tournament on the small blind and big blind. The way we’ve been playing is that if someone is eliminated who was about to be dealer that their chair still gets the dealer button so that blinds don’t jump and skip players, but we’ve been wrestling with whether that dead dealer button should get cards or not. Same for forced blinds too. Personally, I think cards should only be dealt to chip stacks at the table, but I want to be double sure before I enforce a standard of play. I hope that all makes sense.

Is this standard play? Am I missing steps in this area? Am I just totally a moron and have been hosting poor chumps who don’t any better?

Clarification: once play has gotten back on track, those empty seats are then completely eliminated from the order of play.

Nobody pays the same blinds twice in a row. You can have a dead small blind and paid big blind only. No cards for eliminated players. Blind all live stacks and fold cards for anybody away from their seat on their action.

There are two rules

1. You cannot be the big blind twice
2. You cannot skip being the big blind

So if both blinds are eliminated, the next player that was under the gun is the big blind and there is a dead small.

Those rules are also handy when it gets to heads up in tournament play.
