I purchased some tables last summer with the oversized cup holders. I really like cup holders but bottles can stick up a bit high where they occasionally get bumped during play. I decided to make double deep cup holders. You need your oversized cupholdets to be brass as you can't saw through the stainless ones. The regular size cup holders that go in the bottom of the oversized can be brass or stainless. I felt that the stainless cupholders fit tighter so I used them.
First you need a holesaw with removable arbor. You remove the holesaw from the arbor and use it to drill your center hole in the brass cupholder. The cupholders that I used had a swirl mark inside that showed center. You could also mark it but if you are a little off it is fine.
You then hold the cup holder on the same 2" thick board and use a 2-5/8" holesaw to drill a hole in the bottom. You then put your regular cupholder on the end of a 2×2 so that you can force the oversized cupholder down over the regular cupholder.
You push down really hard on the oversized cupholder until it slides all the way down.
Now you are done. I spray my brass cupholders with Mohawk brass spray laquer which keeps them from tarnishing. Now you just slide them down into your rail.
