Hi everyone,

Totally new here. I've been searching long and hard for a poker chip set that actually belongs on a poker table. I think I've decided to bite the bullet and pop for a new custom CPC set. However my art / computer skills leave something to be desired. Can anyone put me in contact with a designer / artist to bring my ideas to life. I've heard J5 (not sure if that's correct) tossed around a few times. Has anyone used the in house CPC team to design their chips? Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dominic

Ps. I'm not totally apposed to a custom ceramic set (I like the large printing surface). Any thoughts on which is better?

Re: clay vs. ceramic there is no better. It's wildly subjective. Do you have samples yet? If not, I would strongly encourage you to get them....lots of them. It might seem pricey but will be worth it and may save you hundreds or thousands of dollars if you drop the coin on a custom CPC set only to realize you prefer ceramics.

I have a few samples. Some China clay milanos, tiki king ceramics, the valentino poker room ceramics, and CPC. The China clay's are no longer in the running. I love the edge spots, sound, and feel of the CPC's. I love the full face custom abilty, and price of the ceramics (the feel and sound aren't too bad too). Either way I'll need my ideas digitized to pass along which ever route I go. Have you worked with anyone personally?

Yep. J5 (Johnny 5) and p5woody. I recommend them both. Hopefully I'm not forgetting any other designer

^^ I commented over on CPC discussion thread and said the same as links_slayer....also add PokerChipsDesign to that list..

Good question about the $50 in-house design work advertised on the site. I often wonder about that but never asked. Perhaps you just get a really basic design (for those who have no real concept in mind and are not too fussy)??

I doubt what I want could be done for $50. I was thinking of a different inlay for each denomination (4 total) and each of those denominations would have different inlays front and back (i.e. black front, white back. For a total of 8 different inlays)

One of the three aforementioned guys will be your best bet :)

I'm currently working with p5woody and can recommend him. I'm a very fussy client and am also very indecisive (probably causing him a headache, but I hope not) and he's coping well with constant change requests :)

P5woody has already replied and sounds like a real nice guy. I've sent him some of my ideas and I'm sure he will turn my jumbled thoughts into something cohesive.

I can vouch for p5woody. He did a design for me that I'm going with.

Already exchanged a few emails with p5woody. Can't wait to see what he turns out. Thanks everyone for being helpful

Any of the designers knows their stuff. Very well. They all do awesome work.
Good luck with your project and welcome to the forums :)

I don't think any of the other designers would argue that @Johnny5 is The Man, but he is in high demand. Very thankful there are other options also, and have had good experiences with p5woody. In any case I highly urge you to work with a designer, and to get feedback on a mockup thread. Most of us can't do this alone.

CPC vs Game On ceramics? Both are great choices. Personally I'd go CPC but price matters and they are 4x more expensive.

I had to wait about 4-5 months for J5's service. I wanted matching inlays with my chips. I was told (and he out performed himself) that he was the man for the job. He did a fantastic job on my sunset chips http://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/oh-what-a-beautiful-sunset-this-is.9476/.

If/when I do another custom set I'll probably roll with @p5woody His work that I have seen on here has been awesome. I figure if I do another set. I might as well mix up my designers and try something different :)

I also use both J5 and p5. Totally happy with both guys and they are in demand. J5 has been in the game much longer so he has a longer queue but you can't go wrong with these guys.

So a preliminary design. May make some changes but I think we're on the right track. What do you guys think?

Lmao. "Joker's wild"....gonna have a different joker on each denomination. The one above is the joker off the kem cards.

Scaled down to size, it's just gonna look like a gray blob rectangle.

Trying to narrow down a mold choice between:
A
CSQ
Hourglass

What are your thoughts? Plusses, minuses, etc.

My first artwork was an ASM in house design. I still like them very much. That was back in 2004ish.

thoughts on this design. its an early work in progress. kind of an al capone theme.
