In the beginning

This was a slow decision process, but seems like a natural achievement, as lot of you already knows.

After lurking for years, then participating a bit, then buying a tournament set from our beloved old Cercle Clichy Montmartre in Paris, and a cash set from the never opened Monte Carlo Casino in St Petersburg, I finally decided to make a custom set for the Swiss hotel my daughter was managing.

For this occasion, I worked on the design with our well know PCF Matt @mattross1313

I really enjoyed the process of thinking about the set, the choices, the try/fail/success for small or big decisions.

Inspiration came from one of my fav set : The now defunct Aviation Club de France (ACF) tournament in Paris.
I made them thru Tina in China and we all loved the result.

The table

After that, I had to get my custom table. I made it thru the greet French maker : Jarque
Again I requested Matt to help me design and produce the files for the felt.

With my wife we love Las Vegas, especially the vintage Vegas.
So the Felt’s theme was obvious.

Again it was a breeze to work with Matt. We see things the same way (minimal design, open minded, …) and we interact efficiently in the creative process.

And the result is fantastic.

The rabbit hole

I really like my 2 real casino set and I love this fantasy set for my daughter’s hotel
But this was not my set.

So, I finally decided to go the CPC custom set road.

My idea was to have the « whole shebang » : set, accessories, and an Alex @alecnetwoodworks box.
Yes, OCD of some sort.

A quick PM to Matt and here we start again.

Obviously I wanted to stick to the vintage Vegas mood, but I really didn’t wanted to copycat all this fantastic vintage designs (Dunes, Mapes, Sands, Aladdin, etc.).

The Stardust chips were a fav of mine, so we decided to take inspiration from the Stardust.

I needed that someone can see the link, but without copying too much of the original design.

I made the color & spot choices for the chips with the CPC design tool, and Matt helped with the label design and files for production.

For the colors I really wanted to stick to the color mood used around this area, but without being too boring.
I also tried to minimise the price by carefully choosing the whole design (spots & colors).
I also wanted to avoid the flashy colors like the fantastic Big Top or Tiger. You see the point.

We play small stakes cash (usually 10c/20c - 40€ buy-in with quite a lot re-buy), so the denominations where quite easy to decide :
  • 100 * 5 cent
  • 200 * 25 cents
  • 200* 1 euro
  • 100 * 5 euros
  • 80 * 20 euros
  • 20 * 100 euros

The box

I always loved Alec @alecnetwoodworks boxes and this decision was a no brainer.

Again I explained what I had in mind and the design process with Alec was smooth and efficient.
We agreed on ground decisions and went thru small ones.

It will be a 2 level box. For the Set, the spares, the dealer button and the cut cards. And the wood will be Elm.

And design will be clean and minimalist. No huge locks, nothing too visible.

Alec did a fantastic work.

The delivery

I live in France(EU) and delivery was an important decision : huge delivery prices, shipping risks, taxes, etc…

Hopefully, this is a poker forum : We go to Vegas with my wife every year around June :)

So the final decision was to send the set and the box late June to my hotel. And I will take them back with me in my luggage’s.
I checked with all vendors that the dead line can be secured for sending the stuff in Vegas when I'm there.

And I got 2 nice package at the Park MGM's reception

The final result

We landed yesterday’s night, I oiled the barrels straight away, and this morning you can find this post.

This set will be in play really soon and hopefully my players will enjoy it as much as I do.

Thanks PCF for this fantastic journey.

Congrats, really digging how the quarter came out. Love the fact that you got to pick them up in Vegas. That's awesome, what a great memory!

Big red denoms and a classic design, love the set! That wood box is absolutely gorgeous too. Very well done all around.

Very nicely done! Everything works well with all of the other pieces. Custom to the maximum level here.

The chips are perfect for the era, as you wanted. Clean and to the point inlay that makes great use of color matching to the colors of the chip. Exactly the way to do it.

Enjoy 'em and win big with em'!

Thanks a lot for this comment. This was exactly what i wanted to achieve.
You know that when you plan something, all can go wrong.
Here it seems that we planned things in a way where all goes right. Especially the matching colors between chips and labels and colors going well in real vs from a tool on screen. really happy with this.
Thanks again to @mattross1313 for the stunning work.
