I had some ASM samples that appear to have a few flea bites. How well do they wear? Those edges are pretty sharp. Do some colors flea bite easier than others?

I've never noticed it on Truman's House chips. These are probably the most used ASM chips I have played with. Hopefully one of the many ASM set owners will give you a more definitive answer.

I'm sure @courage could contribute but I don't recall seeing any on his chips and they've been used probably more regularly than any other ASM/CPC set out there.

Maybe it is a mold or color issue. Do you have pics of your defect chips?

Never seen a flea bite on an ASM chip. They do wear a little more easily than Paulson or BCC I'd say, but not in that way.

I think there was a run of MD-50 chips last year where they were having some trouble with the mold and produced some manufacturing defects that kind of resembled flea bites. Could those be the samples that you have?

The samples were the Rounders sample from linkslayer on the circle square mold. I'm totally fine with the sample I bought, just wasn't sure if it was normal. Wasn't sure if they wear round like most Paulson I've seen or if they get all flea bity like a few Paulson I've seen. One decent size bite on the black $100 and two small ones on the red $5.

It would seem, at least from these, that perhaps ASM's with heavy casino use do not wear down as "smooth" as Paulson , but are more prone to micro Nick's.. Maybe because they are harder?

I have no exhibit of this kind of wear. Although mine see use roughly only once a month.

Yes they do get small nicks imo but not exactly flea bites like rhc paulsons. I think it happens mostly from splashing pot or that sort of contact, but not often. You might be able to see a few on these butterscotch chips.

Likely base colour influenced. My DG pink quarters have some but my light blue dollars do not.

nothing is eternal..
but they are better than Paulson ..

I think each have their pros and Cons. You can customize ASM, you add on to them, they look amazing and they're priced pretty reasonably vs Paulson. Paulson feel softer in my experience and shuffle a bit more dreamier.

in my experience flea bites (bad ones) are caused by splashed pots and slightly oversized trays. The chips tend to lean out and when you stack another rack on top the bottom face edge of the tray comes down hard on the outside-half edge of the outermost chip in the barrel. I have also in the past had some trays that had mold flash on the underside of the tray that would press and scrape the hell out of the center barrel hitting the middle 3-5 chips.
My advice, take a good look at the trays you have. Even lightly sand the inside edge of the tray's foot.

Do ASM get flea bites?

Some of mine have flea bites, some don't. Used casino chips usually are pretty chipped up, but some new customs can chip from hard usage.

I've found this to be effective in preventing flea bites:

Try mixing a little of this into the mineral oil before application:

I have some old well used Nevada mold ASM chips, none have flea bites. I would say they were just starting to get rounded, they barely get used any more.

I have a donkwoods with a flea bite. I highly recommend not dropping one onto a wood floor from about 5ft.
