I was about to order a few racks from Apache but figured I'd ask first if anyone wanted to get rid of any lower denominations of the newer Dunes Commemorative chips. I just scored 1 rack of quarters on eBay but need another rack or 2 and $1s. Some $5 too. If not, I'll just place my order.

I could trade. I have some $25, $100, $500, $1000s that I really don't need since my home game is now just going to be cash games, not tournaments.

You want the slugged Dunes, or the china clays? I think there's two types.

I am pretty sure the ones I have are the cheaper "pure clay" ones, not the china clays. Is that the same as the slugged Dunes?

I think so. Should be under $20/rack. Does a magnet stick to them?

IMG_0993.JPG I just got these.

The "pure clay" are plastic chips but not slugged. Then there's the china clay version. There was not a BCC version of Dunes, those were the Desert Palms.
It's hard to find the china clay version anymore.
Good Luck

which are slugged? afaik there were the original paulsons (obv), a very slippery injection molded version (all w/ the same spots), and a more "china clay" like version (w/ different spots on several denoms).

Ah yes I confused the two, I'm learning still. Thanks for the info.

Thought the injection molded ones would be slugged. Sorry for the confusion.

What are China clays worth per chip? I may have found a very small amount of them.

These appear to be a mix of the two, $100 and up are injection molded pure clays right? $25s and down are china clays?

I can get a few $1s and .50s so I thought maybe I'd start there and see what I can do.

That appears correct. You can compare the edge spot progression with the China Clays vs. the injection molded and also the injection molded version has a light cross hatching or stippling on the surface as well as a smaller diameter label/inlay than the China Clays.

I happen to really like the injection molded version, and they are pretty slippery (just picked up a sample stack of $5s from Apache) but I would say no more than the budget grade ceramics (they're next to a stack of Scrolls at the moment), but I also have a big tourney set of Nexgen Pros which are definitely an older version of this same tech and just as slippery and less visually appealing overall. I'm considering offing my Nexgens and putting the cash into a big set of Dunes for fun (I'm sort of on a quest for a visually pleasing low budget set and I haven't really decided yet).

So they are on a better side of cheapie chips? All my higher denom Dunes chips are almost brand new and they are slippery, but the 1 rack of quarters I bought look like they've had plenty of use but feel way better. Maybe they need a good break in time and they feel better?

If your quarters look like the ones in the above photo, then they're the china clays and they're going to feel better in almost every way. Less slippery, more "clay" like texture and solid weight. The injection molded un-slugged chips are in the same price realm as things like the Poker Knights, Gold Rush, Desert Heat, etc. which are all slugged ABS style chips. They're much heavier and have a more vinyl-like texture. They stack fine, but their edges are very rough where the injection molding seams (or flash, I suppose) are. In my opinion, the injection molded plastic Dunes and their brethren are more consistent and appealing than the others I mentioned at that price level, but it's a personal preference.

If the quarter resembles like those high-denom chips, or more accurately, like this:

then they're injection-molded, and if they're used and feel good, then you can probably reasonably look forward to the new ones wearing in similarly.

Edit: forgot to throw in the Desert Palms injection molded in there. Apache is running some rock bottom prices on those right now. I grabbed a sample rack of the ND white chips, and I kind of like them, but I just can't abide that goofy label. The Dunes label is far and away the classiest label at this level.

Yes they are the injection molds. I was thinking I could speed up the wearing process and throw all my chips in my clothes dryer or something haha. Make sure the heat is off. If it makes them feel better I probably would try it.

Never thought of that, but I'm nearly certain this chip construction doesn't handle impact very well. I had a broken chip in one of my sleeves just from shipping (presumably). I think John Hobby manages to snap one in his fingers in his review of the Nexgens:
