Not Mine eBay Large lot of Hourglass chips (1 Viewer)

Saw those, there's another set of blue ones with the same hot stamp by another seller, I couldn't find any info on the stamps though.

Link? To the blue chips I mean.

Messaged both sellers (both in Maryland btw) to see if they knew anything about the origin of the chips and/or knew of any other colors/denom available. Red chip seller wrote back immediately, said he bought them at auction and knew nothing else. Waiting to hear from blue chip guy.

If there were some greens or blacks also available I would consider picking them up.

Appears that they came from the 'Prince George Jaycees', which was organized by the Fire Department in Glen Dale Maryland (Prince George County). No idea as to what kind of tournaments or play that these were used in, as the info claims that whatever they were closed in 1997.

Who ended up snagging them?

Id planned to toss in a bid or two, but got caught up in research about them and the auction ended. Looks like the winner may have had a pretty high proxy bid in, since the other bidder moved them up to $61 from $26 over the course of a few minutes.

I'm usually looking for wild bargains, and I don't think ~$75 shipped ended up in the category (or at least that makes me feel better about missing the bid). I see a set of 900 blank ASM hourglass molds in multiple colors sold for around $400 here in the classifieds awhile ago, and I'd assume that these used hot stamped chips in a single color are worth a fair deal less?

In further digging it appears that Prince George County had a special stipulation that allowed for charity 'game nights' in which these chips were used. However, it appears that legislature shut them down in 1993 for dealers accepting tips, which violated the provision that no individual involved with the organization of the event could profit. Below is a link to the lawsuit...

Nice to see some chips from good old Maryland. The red chip lot ends in 30 minutes. Someone better get their butts over there!

If they were either part of a larger set including at least two other colors or in better condition I would consider them, but I'm not interested in cleaning and oiling 900+ chips with the chance that they still come out the other side looking like they were soaked in salt water and left in the sun.

What's even more amazing is that the original chip color wasn't red... ;)

Interesting that 2 different sellers are selling or sold some fairly obscure chips from the same charity casino this week. Looked like the blue ones were in much better shape than the red ones, however.
