Hey everyone, I've recently stumbled upon this website after becoming obsessed with the game and have quickly fallen into the poker chip rabbit hole.
I've been looking at purchasing a set of decent chips for some 6 player home games with my mates.

I live in Australia and have been browsing these two sites:
Jackspoker.com.au
pokershop.com.au

I've been considering:
Port royal ceramics - https://www.jackspoker.com.au/port-royal-x-viper-case-500-chip-set
Monte carlo clays - https://www.jackspoker.com.au/monte-carlo-x-viper-case-500-chip-set

I am not sure what the exact difference is between materials, and if someone could describe it to me that'd be very helpful.

I've found the monte carlo chips on pokershop.com, and am confused as to why the Monte carlo 500pc set from Jacks is ~$250AUD when the 1000pc from pokershop is only $300AUD.
Would love to know whether pokershop is a dodgy website or selling cheaper product etc.

pokershop monte carlo - https://pokershop.com.au/collections/poker-chip-sets/products/1000montecarlo

Thanks!

Welcome to PCF! I can't speak to your question regarding pokershop.com.au as I'm not familiar with them at all. But a couple of members have mentioned good experiences with Jacks Poker over the years. That said, I can tell you right now that virtually every single member here is going to recommend the same two things:

1. Buy samples! Our descriptions likely aren't going to be very helpful to you. After all, it doesn't really matter which chips any of us like better... it's all about which chips you like better. And there's simply no way for you to know which you'll like better until you literally have some of them in your hand. Just search for "sample" on the Jacks Poker website and you'll come up with the page below where you can see the sample sets that they have available. Order sets of any of the ones that interest you and then play around with them for a week or two. After that you'll know exactly which chips you want a full set of and you'll never have to worry about buyer's remorse. It's better to spend $20.00 - $30.00 on samples to be sure of your choice versus just buying based upon online descriptions and then second-guessing yourself afterwards.

2. Also poke around this site a bit and look for information about "Tina" chips. These are chips made by a company in China that a huge percentage of PCF members have purchased from over the years. And not only are they right around the same price range you are currently looking at, but they are also completely customizable, and most members will tell you are vastly superior in quality to most of the garbage chips sold online. I'm not sure of the specifics when it comes to having them shipped to Australia, but I'm sure if you search this site for "Tina" and "Australia" you'll probably find some relevant info.
