Okay, I bluffed... it's my second time. First time was for about 1hr in New Orleans, so I'm not counting that.

A buddy and I are taking a trip out to Reno and staying at the Grand Sierra early next month. We'll be there for 5 nights.
I'm mostly excited about playing hold 'em (maybe a couple daily tourneys), but I'm looking for any general advice about being at a casino that people are willing to share.

Do's and Dont's
What to watch for
Comps
Table etiquette

The one thing I have heard several times is that I should check out some Craps tables!

The goal of the trip is just to enjoy being away from work for a few days, have fun playing some cards and experience something new.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

For live casino poker, my best recommendation is to take a seat and do your best to observe for a good amount of time. It can be pretty intimidating at first but play tight for an hour, watch how other player's are playing their hands and conceive a plan on the spot of how you will exploit their moves. Be confident in your own ability - other's can sense nervousness from a mile away.

I do love craps - and the dealers should be willing to help you out. Just remember not to buy in mid-roll, try to avoid late bets (the dice have already moved to the shooter and you throw more chips on the table :vomit:), and don't utter the number between 6 and 8.

Uber 10 mins across town to Peppermill to play poker, really nice room and generally more games/tables running and nightly small $ tournaments. Grand Sierra has 1-2 $1/2 tables running on their busy nights.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Looks like Sierra has twice a day $25 buy in tourneys.

What would I be looking for at Peppermill?

Those $25 tourneys are gonna be a shove fest with lots of rake. Peppermill might have better and more frequent games. Not sure about tournaments. Try to stay away from stupid slots and pit games.

I think their nightly tourneys are $60 with a little better structure than a $20 shove fest. Their $1/2 games have a $300+ cap and decent rake structure as well as pretty good room hi hand/bad beat promos and fairly soft action

Have a gambling budget for each day. Don’t blow your whole budget on the first day. Give yourself action each day.

Thanks for all the replies!

Any other advice about the casino in general, not specific to playing hold em?

Where do I get the free chips? Haha.
Is getting comped for food / other things fairly common?

Anybody have any experience with sports betting?

Anything to make sure NOT to do?
