How would you guys host a $20 buy in 20k starting stack tournament?

This is very vague. Do you want a structure? Do you want a payout scale? Do you want a chip breakdown? Are you deciding what to provide your players? If you explain what you actually want, somebody might be able to help you.

What chips do you have at your disposal? Or are you looking for recommendations on building a set?
Sorry ur right it is vague. I don't have any tournament chips yet so I need to buy a set. Never hosted a tournament but the main thing I need help with is the timing structure. Also would love recommendations for a cheap tournament set.

I came up with a structure what I think I'd get a while ago (I listed enough of it for 80 players, you will not need that much). How many players will you have and would you like to have a lot of chips on the table or just enough to get by? That will help determine how many chips you'll need. Running it with a BBA will also matter, though it is not usually recommended that you have one.

There’s lots of cheap sets here.

No seriously though. You might find someone that has something depending on your budget. Then I’d suggest ask some questions about one of the group buys that @justincarothers coordinates monthly.

Good luck.

This structure looks nice. How long does it last usually? I'll have 15-25 players a night and I'd like a good amount of chips to get by but not feel like you've never got any chips. But also I don't really wanna break my bank. Also we won't use bba

The tournament should end between the 8K/16K and 15K/30K levels depending on the number of players (5:00-5:40 plus breaks with 20 minute levels, 3:45-4:15 plus breaks with 15 minute levels). End rebuys at the end of the first break if you want to allow them.

For chips, most people would probably say 10/6/6/2 or 15/5/6/2 if you want less change-making. The following setup will allow for 15/5/6/2 for up to 20 players, or 10/6/6/2 for up to 30 players (just incase your game grows).

300x T100s
180x T500s
180x T1Ks
84x T5Ks

Obviously get a few extras so your set doesn't break if you lose/break a few chips.

Have you ran tournaments in the past? Do you have any recommendations for chip sets? As I said I'm looking for a relatively cheap simple set.

I have never run a tournament, not have anything better than dice chips. I just learned the math from being on the site and it's fun to set these structures up. If you had $479, the Tina group buy as @merkong would get you custom chips or some really nice designs (325/200/200/100 so you have plenty of chips and extras of each denomination). Otherwise, I'm not the person to ask, and I would defer your question on chips to somebody more experienced.
