AUCTION GUIDELINES
    1. The highest bid at the closing time listed above will win. If there is a bid within 5 minutes of the closing time (original or extended closing time), 5 minutes shall be added to the time of the last bid, until there are no bids within the final 5 minutes. Because seconds are not displayed on post timestamps, these examples will be used as a reference.
    2. No Reserve. The Starting Bid of this auction will be treated as the Reserve Price.
    3. Bids must be placed in whole US dollars, following the specified minimum increment amounts. The use of the dollar sign is optional. Bids using images or spelled out numbers are not valid.
    4. All bids are to be placed openly in this thread. No bids via Private Message/Convo. Sellers are not permitted to bid on their own auctions.
    5. The seller reserves the right to edit the listing to clarify statements or correct any errors.
    6. Once a valid bid is made, the auction can not be canceled. Bid edits and/or retractions are not permitted. Violations of this rule will result in discipline at the discretion of PCF Admins and/or Moderators.
    7. PCF (its Owner, Admins, and Moderators) are not responsible for any actions or outcomes that take place in this auction.
I am selling 100 Sidepot Protege NCV chips. I purchased these chips 20 years ago and my set has been used weekly pretty much that entire time but these particular chips have had very little activity and so are in good condition. I freshly cleaned them this morning per the instructions from the thread on this forum in an ultrasonic cleaner with TSP. See the pictures below that include every single chip being sold. Any questions are welcome.

I am looking for $4.50/chip or best offer. I listed Fedex as the shipping method but can use whatever carrier you prefer. Since this is my first sale, you can check my eBay ratings for user gwitsch. I can message you from there if you wish to establish that it is my account.

FYI, This is part of a larger set the includes InPlay and Modern Clay chips that will be sold in a few months once I receive my new set of CPC chips.

Looks like you got the price you were looking for unless everyone messaged you with a lower offer.
Actually, I got several messages with the both the stated price and higher offers. That is what I was allowing for when I said "or best offer". But I see how someone could read that differently. It is also why the auction process would be the most transparent for all interested parties. Again, I apologize for any angst I have caused as I learn what I am doing. My future sales will be auctions from the start.

  • I have read and accept the listing rules. Failure to comply may result in a warning or ban.
All "For Sale" ads must have a price.
No "Interest only" or "Not for sale yet" type ads.

Remember checking this box in your cancelled Sale ad? Kind of ironic you are going to argue, incorrectly, that others were confused by your wording when you claim not to understand simple English you agreed to yourself before listing them for sale. “Or best offer” is universally understood to mean the best offer less than the stated price, not more. If you made an honest mistake, you should accept the responsibility for that mistake, and sell them to JMC for $450 if he’ll still buy them at this point.

would be the most transparent
Publicly name who offered you more if you truly want to be transparent :). Otherwise, there's no reason to take you at your word. A new member (such as yourself) may have plausible deniability on whether or not they know better; let's see if a vet or two actually knowingly tanked a deal.

This would be a nice first step in a redemption story.

(Yes, I just bought stocks in popcorn.)

Let @JMC9389 have them for the $450 (if he'd still do business with you).
I get your reaction but JMC was not the first offer at that price. Split sent a DM prior to JMC's post in the thread. If changing to an auction is frowned upon, I understand and am wiling to accept the request price. But if I go with the original post and accept the stated price, then it shouldn't it go to Split who responded first. I am trying to do the right thing.

No problem. NumisChip offered $5/chip. And both NumisChip and Grimace suggested listing it as an option.

He’s a new member and with his first sale thought he could set a floor price and go up from there with best offer. He isn’t the first new member to mess up their first sale. After talking to other members in private messages including myself explaining the best offer part, me and it seems others suggested an auction was the best place to put these up for everyone to bid on.

Not a great start but not the first time a new member made an error either not reading Sales stipulations or not realizing they could auction something.

We were all new at one point and all made mistakes.

It seems like a member here has vested interest in those chips, and the seller is simply too greedy to let it go.

He has linked his eBay account. Surely he understands what "or best offer" means?

While I would like to get the best price for my chips, I also acknowledge that this situation is my creation and any lost profit is my cost of education. I am willing to sell them at the $4.50 listed price, but JMC was not the first offer at that price. Split sent a DM prior to JMC's post in the thread. Ultimately they're your chips and you do what you want with them. I never think I have claim to any chips until they're paid for and I have a tracking link with the chips on the way to me. There are certainly no hard feelings on my end.

Traditionally, in a "for sale" ad, the person that lays claim to an item first via PM or by "dibs" in the sale thread usually gets first crack at buying if they're willing to pay the asking price. But at the end of the day, you sell to who you want to sell to.
