Well, just getting acquainted with all of this Poker Collecting.

I have spent so much time researching on these forums and elsewhere. Seen much great advice.

That said, I finally started into my collecting venture and began with buying the Modiano Platinum Acetate cards and 1000 Milano chips in the square transparent carrying cases with trays.

I'm pretty sure I will start collecting Paulson THC someday, but I'm sure my decision fits the bill for now as I dabble my feet in the shallows.

Next on my agenda is finding a quality poker table. Suggestions would be great.

Meanwhile, I plan on a set of ceramics next with my company's logo somehow customized on it. Although, would rather get China clays if possible. Not sure how that process works, but I see many threads talking about custom chips. Would love to host poker tourneys for my employees and customers.

Played poker most my life, but only within the last year did I get introduced to cash and tournament games at local casinos and poker rooms. My first night, a friend bought me in for $40 at a 1-2nl, and I walked out with $1,600 a couple hours later. Needless to say, that potential hooked me pretty quick. Been playing on that free bankroll ever since at random places throughout the southeast during my work travels.

Would love to learn how to get involved in participating in WSOP, but I am limited to Florida and Mississippi poker rooms, so not sure how that works. Their tourneys all seem to be sit n gos or unrelated to WSOP. I saw a poker tournament season listed over on chiptalk, but they were asking to PayPal money "friend or family" and the pokerstar app i installed explicitly stated that I cant play for cash in the USA--so I stand confused there. Also, the program kept locking up because my AVG said it was trying to access files on my computer--not ideal if you must sit for 4 hours. So, not sure, really, how to get involved with WSOP. The casinos and poker rooms here in Florida and Mississippi just give me a confused look. I know you must go to Vegas for the main events, but what about the prior season?

Anyhow, any advice is appreciated and I must thank you in advance.

There are online tournaments for forum members available here. Go to the meet ups sub forum and there is instructions there. They use the Pokerstars home game feature to run play money tournaments. Because Pokerstars can't run real money games in the US, people use PayPal for buyins and prize money distribution.

Also in AVG somewhere there will be a section to whitelist programs (tell AVG that the program is safe and to leave you alone). That will fix your problems.

@T_Chan is a site vendor that builds excellent quality poker tables from all reports. You can find his in the vendor section.

What kind of business are you in, I would love to work somewhere that runs poker games with employees and customers.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take a closer look at the PokerStars thing later this week and see if I can resolve those issues. So, I am assuming the PayPal idea allows the cash to flow externally and then the tourney is played within PokerStars?

My business is a commercial facility services company. We provide landscaping, janitorial and floorwork, pressure washing, window washing, carpets and upholstery, painting, hvac, plumbing, maintenance and electrical services with a side of automotive fleet services to all commercial markets (healthcare, financial, government, Educational, Institutional, industrial, office and high rise, etc.). Currently in the 16 southeastern states of the US, but working to expand further.

I take employees to casinos and poker rooms for fun and as a reward on occasion, but setting up our own poker table and bringing that experience in-house with customized company logo chips would be my ideal scenario. We could even do some charitable poker tourneys.

Seems the more I get involved with this, the more fun it becomes.

When playing cash games, I sometimes fold nut hands because I can clearly see the losing player can't afford to lose. Don't like taking $$ from those short stackers--especially when it causes the table to clear. Just for fun for me.

That said, I think tournament play is more suitable for me in the long run. Not sure I could achieve Negreanu, Holz or McKeehan type achievements in my lifetime, but sure would be fun to try and learn from the best amd increase my skillset.

Is it possible for me to get a poker table with the automatic shufflers? All of the ones I've seen open to the public are just flat felted, and I'm not a big fan of drink holders built into the arm rest.

Two things a poker table should never have (learnt from my own experiences) - cup holders, and a wooden racetrack.

To each their own, I agree with the wood racetrack but disagree with cup holders. I host a weekly cash game and a few bigger tourneys per yr and I prefer deep cup holders in the rail. You can have all the rules you want and side tables but with a crowd you can be sure someone will spill and IMO a deep cup holder helps prevent. Shallow cup holders however are probably worse than none since people think they will prevent spills (and are not as careful around them) but they do not.

Yes you can get an automatic shuffler built into the table, but the casino quality shufflers cost $15,000+ alone. There used to be a home version called the shuffletech for $500 but it's no longer reliable and I do not recommend them to any of my customers. There are, however, many people around who have them either built into their table or in a side cart.

I have a shuffletech with flush mount kit I've been too lazy to list on eBay as well.

Funny, definitely agree to each is own... I love my race track and hate my cup holders... Wine and scotch glasses don't fit well in cup holders...

Just my opinion but

1. I like to shuffle, I don't like shuffling on timber, which means I need to put chips out in front to shuffle.
2. I like room in front of me. Don't like reaching around drinks or having them near my elbows where I think I'll end up hitting them.

As others have said,

racetrack: the horrible 'clack' of chip against wood. The way part of the table's real estate is artificially determined to be "where you put your chips" - when you have a lot of chips in front of you, they spill out onto the felt anyway so why not just have felt?

Cup holders: get in the way. Forever at risk of bumps and knocks. Artificially determine where people sit even when you have less than 8 (or whatever).

Having said that, personal preference is everything.

I got to say, I have narrow, deep cup holders in my rail, and I would not change them for anything. They work perfectly. Being narrow, you cant knock the beer over/out. The side of the bottle hits the side of the cup holder and the beer sits snug in place. I would worry about larger diameter cup holders. I can easily see how bottles will topple over, or wine glasses get spilled in these. But the narrow ones work VERY VERY well.

Oh and I really like the no racetrack. I like being able to move barrels across the felt, and shuffle cards on the felt, and shuffle chips without wood clanking etc.

I prefer side tables - no racetrack, no cup holders, cards and chips only on the table along with your hands for betting and arms for leaning.

welcome to PCF, you will find everything you need on this site...the members are all very knowledgeable and open to providing useful information to save you some headaches along the way...with exception to your wallet, that puppy is toast if you stay here long enough
