I used to have about 40 of the 1 cent Blaze Orange chips . They used the chips - along with
this 5 cent chip - in customer training games .
I actually sat in on a game back in the 1990’s
where “ Artichoke Joe “ aka Joe Sammut was
the dealer . A very cool card room !!!

Thank you for this info! I love it! The place sounds super interesting and I always wondered what the backstory was. I also like the THC cash line up!

Apparently, Dennis’s father Joe was famous for never refusing to book a bet, no matter the size. Once asked how he could afford to pay someone off, he said he’d pay them in artichokes, hahha. The nickname stuck.

ARTICHOKE!

Guess how many letters I had to hit to get artichoke on my phone, "Ar" LOL I serch for these chips every single day for over two years now.

John I believe you and in reference to Joe Sammut II, senior retired in the 50s and had nothing to do with the Carson City Venue. Joe II absolutely loved the place and according to family was dealing in the casino the night before he died in 2006. Unfortunately Dennis Sammut who took over the original San Bruno location also died in 2020.

Absolutely awesome history with these casinos... my favorite part is how Joe Sammut Sr. Got his name. Known to take any wager in horse betting, one day he took several large bets on a single Horse. When asked "what will you do if you have to cover the bets?" He looked out the window at fields of Artichokes and said "Artichoke Leaves" hence forth he was forever known as Artichoke Joe!

Only a couple known pictures of Sr, but seriously how bad ass is this shot! Such amazing history in the Sammut family.

Awesome giveaway John!
