I am a newbie at this but been looking for a while. I saw CPC is coming to an end and want to get my set in before they are all done.

My vision is a "GOAT" set -> greatest of all time athletes (at least in my viewing lifetime). It's not perfect, as I am potentially included Roger Federer (who really cannot be argued to be the GOAT anymore), Tiger Woods (who did not eclipse Jack Nicklaus) and even Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera (my two favorite yankees), and even Michael Schumacher (who may have been eclipsed by Lewis Hamilton). Still, these are the athletes of my lifetime.

Anyhow, my vision is to do something like this, with:
  • $1 White - Side 1: Roger Federer, Side 2: Wimbledon Logo, $1 mark, Primary is white, secondary colors are green & purple from Wimbledon Logo
  • $5 Red - Side 1: Michael Schumacher, Side 2: Ferrari + $5 mark, Primary is ferrari red, secondary colors are yellow from ferrari logo + white
  • $10 Blue - Side 1: Deker Jeter or Mariano Rivera, Side 2: Yankees Loog, $10 Mark, Primary is yankees navy blue, secondary is gray and white
  • $25 Green - Side 1: Tiger Woods, Side 2: Masters Logo, Primary is green to match golf greens, secondary is red and black (tiger's colors)
  • $50 Purple - Side 1: Lebron James, Side 2: Lakers Logo + $50 mark, Primary is lakers purple, secondary is lakers golf & white
  • $100 Black - Side 1: Michael Jordan, Side 2: Chicago Bulls + $100 mark, Primary is black, secondary is bulls red + white
  • Dealer button - Muhammad Ali; black/white stripes
Plaques:
  • $500- Lionel Messi, ideally will include argentina blue and white stripes of some kids
  • $250 - Tom Brady, patriots blue, perhaps with red & white as secondary colors
This need some work. I am hoping someone can help me as a designer. I dont think photographs are the right way for the players; i think it's better to use basic illustrations, and make them all consistent. I'd also want the chip colors to cover more of both sides of the chip, and I'd ideally want denominations on both sides as well. Alternatively, it may also be a good idea to make one size say "GOAT Poker" and have denominations, and the other side shows the person + the symbol. I dunno if that's possible.

Also is this even allowed? Is there an issue in doing these logos on my personal chips? I have no idea. Obviously I dont intend on selling them...

Welcome to PCF!

I don’t think CPC will make chips with those logos. You would probably need to look at the ceramic/hybrid options from China offered through here. I would rather stick with CPC though and create a personal design. There are many designers on PCF that will help you out for a very reasonable price.

Also, you don’t want that many denoms. Skip the $10, $50 and $250. Ideally you want 4-5x between each denom.

Good luck with your journey!

Thank you appreciate that. Do you think CPC or others domestically would have an issue with illustrations/images of the individuals as well, or just the logos? Any particular chinese option that is high quality? (Thank you)!!

Cool idea! I don't think Muhammad Ali is the greatest boxer of all time but love the colors.

I think this might be better as tributes to the great athletes instead of the logo and picture. Include the same colors but logo is All-Time PokerRoom or something. I don't want the same picture of Kobe on 200+ chips, I want a beautiful purple and gold chip that makes me think of the Mamba. Same with the $100, have the same colors but let people guess or ask what it represents.

Up to you. Lots of designs on here have nods or allusions to characters or people or whatever but I don't usually like just having a photo on it. All just my opinion, but yeah the logos are a no-go unless its from China where copyright doesn't exist.

I like the concept and potential to spark endless debates. So happy to see boxing represented.

Muhammad Ali is indeed the GOAT of boxing. Untouchable during his prime during one of the most competitive eras in the beautiful sport. I can see why you chose Tiger over Jack, but you probably never saw Jack play either. You are wasting Clay on LeBron. His favorite part of poker is the flop.

Untouchable? He was an incredible fighter but lets not say untouchable, Frazier had one eye for most of his career and won the first with the greatest left hook ever thrown in the middle of Ali's prime, then beat Ali to a pulp in the 3rd fight. Ali was amazing, a generational talent, no doubt. Awful that he went to jail and lost that time.

If we're talking renown and fame, yes, hands down. But pure boxing, I agree with Ali himself when he says Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest ever. Strength of schedule, longevity, and several packed weight classes. He was voted fighter of the year almost a decade apart and held a 85+ (forget actual number) win streak during those years.

....Untouchable during his prime ....
Maybe you're too young to have noticed all those gentle "touches" from Joe Frazier...

But you have to remember that in every non-team sport, any dominant current number one is definitely the best ever, simply because of constant advances in training, nutrition, the amount of competition, etc.

Nevertheless, it's kinda hard to argue against the two undefeateds: Marciano and Mayweather. The latter was definitely the most skilled boxer I've ever seen.

Mannnnn, this is going to be an excellent thread!

Also, if your players are hard core sports fans, this could start actual brawls!!!! :ROFLMAO:

I do feel like attempting to use those logos will cause you potential issues. Tina hybrids might be your best option.

Baaa, never fought Pacquiao in their primes. pound for pound best in the world, same age and came up at the same time, perfect style matchup....and they wait until Pac has lost his step. Breaks my heart. Agreed on Ali, but as for Mayweather I just cant see Duran/Leonard/Hagler taking that easy way out. My father was a big Duran fan and has passed that down, always loved the swarmer style. Wouldve loved to see Mayweather vs Duran at Lightweight, great fighters.

Incredible fighters though, the way Mayweather dismantled and just shut down offense in some of the deepest weight classes. Master class.

Thank you for all the feedback. I am hearing:
1) Photos may not work that well; I'd agree; at best, an illustration, or maybe even get rid of them entirely and focus on a tribute rather than actually looking at them.
2) Logos are problem unless I make it in China -> got it! helpful.
3) My denominations are meh... I recognize this ;-) including $10 and $50 is a bit of a stretch
4) My other idea was to get rid of messi/brady and make the plaques one dark blue for Yankees and one gold for Lakers and include various all time greats for each team (more room on a plaque) - those being more about the team than the individual

I guess my primary thing is I'm hoping I can find a designer to help me realize this vision, and even help me figure out the right chips to purchase to do this, but of course I highly appreciate other suggestions or leads...

You definitely can find a designer and chips.
