So we finally decided on a trip to "celebrate" my 50th orbit around the big yellow sphere in the sky (late October).
The finalists for the trip were narrowed down to:
A) St. Andrews, Scotland. I helped celebrate the same milestone there with my brother Noelsarchs. I love golf, but Scotland can be really nasty that time of year.
B) Gulf coast of Florida. Nice and warm in late October.
C) New Orleans because I want to see the place and go to a restaurant owned by Emeril.

Last week was spring break, and my 9 year old daughter was complaining because we never go anywhere fun like her friend who's family was going to Mexico.

So Mrs. Sparky mentioned going to Mexico sometime. Soooooo, we looked up flight costs which were less than a third of flying from Chicago to London. After looking at a map, we decided on Cancun over Puerto Vallarta because it was a lot closer. Flight durations matter when you have a 9 y.o. and a 6 y.o.

We ended up booking a trip to an "all inclusive" resort; Royal Solaris. We chose that option because it was our first time there and we didn't want to have to deal with finding food the kids would eat. It is also a "kid friendly" location.

Now I just need to find a nice golf course to be playing on the big day.

I also would like to get some poker chips if possible.

Any suggestions of which casino to try?
Other suggestions also welcome.

By our poker room standards, I don't think there are any good casinos in the entire Caribbean region.

Poker rooms are rare; those with more than three tables, and more than one in play, are rarer still.

In Cancun, even the Hard Rock went busto. Good luck, and have fun in the sun!

Thanks. I doubt that Mrs. Sparky or the kids will give me time to play cards. Hopefully I can find some nice chips to bring back.

I'm going there in August, and believe me, I have researched lol. The only resort that has a casino is Grand Bahia Principe Coba, but that's in Tulum, more closer to Riviera Maya than Cancun. In Cancun, Casino Palace will be your best bet.

So my vacay/wedding has come and went and I didn't get to hit up the casino :( What info I gathered by calling them is that they have tournaments every night starting at 8pm, and cash games start around 10pm. Blinds are 25/50 pesos (which, depending on the exchange rate, will play like a 1/3 or 2/4 game). It's located in central Cancun, so it is fairly easy to catch a 20-30 minute cab ride if you're staying in the hotel zone or Riviera Maya. Will be following your TR when you get there! Here's what you'd be looking at:

I'm curious what you found. We're going sometime next year for one of my wife's work conferences. Yeah, worst places to wind up. I guess we are on one of those all inclusive resort kind of places. I'm not super wild about Mexico in general so the chances of us venturing off the property are slim at best.

We also stayed in an all inclusive resort; Royal Solaris. Never go there! Terrible food. It was like a Golden Corral buffet!
Their definition of "all inclusive" was slim. The lounge was devoid of top shelf alcohol for purchase. No free wifi; $16 per day per room, PER DEVICE!!!
The northern area of the hotel strip is better. Senor Frog's was a blast and had good food.
