Greetings all, I just retired and now have all the time in the world to persue my many hobbies. I will be looking for a weekly game to participate in here out on eastern Long Island and it looks like there are plenty of people that love poker as I do. I always wanted to design my own family set of poker chips and I believe this is a great place to start. I don’t know how many posts I need to start participating in messaging people with questions but everyone has to start somewhere and this is a great place to start. Thanks in advance to everyone that will help in my journey designing a set of chips for everyone in my family. Till then

Welcome to PCF and congratulations on retiring! Enjoy the community and your journey designing a set of chips. Cheers!

Thanks everyone for the warm greetings. I just added up how many cash sets I am going to have made for this idea of mine. It looks like I will need 28 sets of chips and storage boxes. Wow, this is going to be a lot of chips. How long will the chips last? A few hundred years I hope. My family has been playing cards with cans of pennies ever since I can remember as a little kid. The way they shut me up during one of their Friday night card games was my uncle gave me one of those Whitman blue penny collection books and gave me cans of pennies and said, “fill em up.” That started me down the coin collecting road looking for the 1943 copper penny and the 1955 double die error penny worth thousands. Never found either coin. Well, thanks again for the warm welcome. This retirement thing is hard to get used to.

I just completed the design of my first custom set of chips, so if you have any questions, feel free to reach out. But if you literally mean 28 separate sets of several hundred chips each, I hope you retired well.:bigbucks:

Thanks for the reply. Yea I know its going to cost a lot to produce that many sets but I think I can get the number of people I really like in my family and deserves a gift like this down to 15 people or so. I am trying to keep it in the ballpark of $3500 a set. We shall see. I have to come up with a theme first. I have been looking around the forum and really like the Casa Mango chips. That turned out to be a great design. Thanks for offering the assistance.

Only 15-28 sets?

Ha, but welcome! Definitely take your time looking around at sets - HOF section is a great resource too if you haven't looked already.

Cratty, the more I think about it I might be able to get away with 10 cash sets. If I can keep the cost down to around $1500 to 2k a set that would be doable. The last family gift I made for everyone were custom Bocce balls. 4 each for everyone in custom colors. They were a hit and are used every year at our family bbqs.

Welcome from another Long Island person. Good luck and be sure to check out the links for new members - they're quite helpful.
