My name is Charlie. Been playing poker since the mid 90's. I'm so old that I remember when almost all of the poker games spread at my local casino were seven card stud and all the games were limit; I had never even heard of no limit. Cut my teeth playing 3/6 limit, which seemed like nose bleed level to me.
At some point I bought a set of ASM A-mold chips hot stamped with my initials. They were nice but I had caught the bug and eventually found Chiptalk where this 10percenter guy was putting together a group buy of real casino chips. I bought a cash set of those original Pharaohs Club chips and still have them.
Poker and poker chips took a back seat to the rest of my life for about 20 years but I'm retired now, all the kids moved out so I have some time on my hands to maybe pursue a hobby I really enjoy.
Thanks for reading.

Welcome! Any pics of your Pharaohs you can share?
Sure, it'll give me some practice figuring out how exactly to share pics. Before I do I just want say that people are going to think I have way too many fracs but I can explain.
When I bought the set we mostly played limit hold em and stud. I absolutely loved the pink chip game at the Tropicana in Atlantic City which was 7.50/15 and was a limit game played with pink $2.50 chips (I had never heard them called snappers till I came here). It was essentially a 3 chip/6 chip game just like $3/$6 game I started with, just different denom chips. It was a wild game with tons of chips flying, huge dragged pots and stacks upon stacks of chips which I couldn't really afford to play. So when I decided to buy my own chips, I kind of wanted to re-create that feeling of huge pots and big chip stacks but the people I played with weren't going to play anywhere near those pink chip stakes.
So I bought this set intending mostly to play .75/1.50 limit hold em, hence the abundance of fracs. At basically the same time no limit hold em was exploding and obviously now dominates as the main game played so this set seems out of whack but I kind of miss those days of limit hold em.

Welcome to PCF :) enjoy the community. Thanks for sharing some of your poker chip journey over the years. My buddies and I also enjoy playing with a lot of fracs/chips on the table.

Ok, let's give this a whirl.

Cool backstory. I think you’ll find lots of fans of MOAR chips! Not a fan when it’s overly efficient and/or you get hardly any ‘fracs’ or singles below $5 chips. Also, who doesn’t like big stacks ;)

Hey Charlie… Where upstate? I’m a bit south of Albany.

I live in Binghamton. I always intended to move to Albany, it's such a great part of the state; couple hours from the city, couple hours from the high peaks, Lake Champlain. Saw some great Dead shows at the old Knick. Somehow never got around to moving.

Nice - 25c is my fave. Not seen the original before for the quarter, only plastic/ceramic versions. They look to be in really good shape for how long you’ve had them

It's a sad commentary on how little I've been able to play over the years. Mostly family get togethers and with the kids, never could get a reliable group of people to play on a regular basis. Plus, you know, life.

Welcome!
What I mean is, Welcome home Charlie, you made it. You need no apologetics for your chip count here brother.

Thanks for sharing the photos, I've created a few posts for new members, you can find them in my signature (landscape on mobile)

you can find photos of chip sets in my signature as well. I hope you find better games than holdem, and I hope you specifically find Super Stud, I think you'll like it.

Happy Journey!
