Hello everyone!
I've decided that it is time to post an introduction after 2 months of lurking. I am 23 years old and currently living in Texas (originally from PA - moving back soon). I am very new to poker. I started playing back in July and had no exposure to it growing up. Actually, before this summer I really had no idea that poker existed. Which is pretty ironic considering I watched the Sopranos earlier this year. So far, it's safe to assume that I have fallen in love in poker (specifically NLHE but PLO bomb pots are incredibly fun as well).
I have played at the local card rooms here quite a bit in the past couple of months. I have a couple of small tournament winnings and briefly had a decent cash game profit margin. My first cash game I bought in for $200 and cashed out for $1000 exactly. From there I battled back and forth for about two weeks until returning $700 of that profit back to the regulars at my card room. Nonetheless, I'm actually somewhat glad that this is how it has turned out so far. Experiencing this downswing has made me reflect more on learning the game and dealing with tilt and chasing profit/money back. I know that this situation isn't crazy or interesting, but I figured I'd just share my experience with poker so far.
Now onto something a lil more interesting. I am planning on a major life changing move from Texas back home to PA in January. Once I return home and buy/rent a home, I will start hosting home games with an extremely close group of friends from high school. They all frequently play together and I am ecstatic to join in with the boys. Poker aside, I've genuinely been extremely homesick over the past two year which I am sure is fueling this. I've been doing a ton of research on a future man cave, poker tables and poker chips. I have hosted one game here, but it only had 3 people who knew how to play out of 7 and it just really did not satisfy my poker tick (it was a good night though). I have a slowplay tabletop mat and some claysmith gaming chips. (will send a picture below).
Chips I've played with in person so far: The Lodge's Chips. Monte Carlo Chips, Claysmith Chips, Claysmith Chips with a custom sticker and another custom set I haven't identified yet.
I am a fan of the chips at the Lodge, but was a little sad when I saw how much wear & tear the $5 chips have. Nonetheless, I enjoy the non-standard blue color of their $1 chips.
Some favorite chips that I have seen on PCF: Opus Casino Chips from GEMACO (these are my absolute favorite). Aria Casino Chips, Tiger Palace, Aurora Club, Tiki Ceramics.
I'm sure that there are quite a few I have forgotten about, but I am so in love with the Opus chip set.
What I will realistically buy next: Going to finish out my set from Claysmith gaming. From there it is a toss-up between the Royal set from Apachepoker.com or the Turbo Ceramics set from thepokerstore.com. There is a high chance that I go with the Turbo Ceramic set since it has a similar style to the Lodge's chips, and can double down as a tournament set. Not a fan of how busy the bigger denominations get, but the $1 and $5 chips are really nice.
Anyways, thanks for reading this entirely-too-long of an introduction post!
