At what level do you cut off rebuys for an evening single table tournament? Do you say after a certain time length, or rebuys allowed to a certain level? If I am allowing rebuys, should I allow add ons?

I want to do a tournament structure with rebuys for a single (10) table that will start at around 7 pm at night and end at around 1:30 am ...

Our standard league games are the first 4 levels. The first 4 levels are 20 minutes. The rest are 30 minutes.

We also do an unlimited rebuy tourney on occasion.

should be based on where your levels get to 15-20 bbs as a rebuy.

if youre rebuying and you only get less than 15 bbs, you should cut off your rebuy period there

We allow one rebuy / player, and end it after the 2 hr mark. Players who do not rebuy get 1 bb in exchange for their rebuy chip when the rebuy period ends.

Sometimes we do 1 rebuy per player with no time limit. There gets to a point where it doesn't make sense to rebuy for 5BB or less.

Two reasonable approaches, imo:

1. Never -- let re-buys be purchased until the end of the tournament. At some point it doesn't make financial sense to do so, but give the players all the options and let them figure it out.
2. End the re-buy period when the re-buy stack becomes worth less than 20-25 big blinds. That's close to the critical point where players have to start making something happen, or become so short-stacked that few play options remain.

That's pretty much up to you, and depends a lot on your blind structure and when you want the event to end. Adding more chips into play extends the length of the tournament.

When I do use re-buys/add-ons, I typically offer half-stack add-ons (half the starting stack size for half of the initial buy-in amount). I also make sure that the add-on size is at least 10BB at the time it is offered (which will coincide with.the end of the re-buy period if it ends when a re-buy is worth at least 20BB).

A single-table re-buy tournament that lasts six hours (plus breaks) can be easily achieved. What size starting stacks do you propose?

I end my rebuy (one per person) and late entry period at the end of the first break which is the first chip up.
At that point, a rebuy would be 25BB
