Hi all.. I am looking to get my first set of poker chips but it looks like the best sets are in America, before ordering any samples I was wondering what everyone’s preferred choice is for a home cash game.

Paulsons would be great but my group don't play that much to warrant paying for Paulsons - i like the look of them especially the bright bold colours they use, i think an upgrade from the standard dice chips which we use at present would add to the experience so looking for a nice casino feel chip.

I am looking for about 400/500 chips for a cash game - as we play 25p/50p game, i was looking at denotations of 0.25, 0.50, 1, 5 & 10 but some of the chip sets i have looked at i prefer the higher denotation colours of 25, 50, 100, 500 & 1000.

My budget is probably pushing £150, i know i can get 400No Mint or Casino Royale chips from Apache Poker for about $60 but with shipping being more than the chips themselves i will be looking in the classifieds for chips in the UK and hopefully get a better quality chip.

Thanks, I’ve been looking there the last couple of days.. very tempted to buy some or wait until I travel to Vegas next year.. really think I need to get some samples to see which ones I like.. majestics seem like a good starter chip.

Looking in Europe might be a good first step or Europeans selling to avoid the large shipping charges

Just curious, do you buy your chips from America or do you know anywhere in UK that sell decent sets

I think there are a couple of ceramic chip providers (can't remember names off the top of my head - premier poker chips and pokchipsuk?) but nobody selling decent China clay chips or better.

I've bought most of my sample sets from the commercial sellers in the States (shipping doubles the cost). I've bought chip sets from private sellers here - I'd recommend that route, the trade off being it'll probably take longer to get what you want.

I was looking to buy some sample sets from Apache poker but as you said the shipping doubles the cost, don't suppose you have any samples you no longer require i could buy/borrow/rent to give me an idea of chip quality & personal preference.

i was looking at ordering the following sets: Monte Carlo, Mint, Monaco Club, Rock & Roll, Milano & Majestic sets.

Buy the majestics and you probabably wont be disapointed... if you like bright colors! I think they are hands down the best non high class chips I have some of them and i could send you a sample but not sure how much that would be from switzerland...
