Hello all-

I have been "looking" at some threads and classified, so I figured I should join.

I am curious about a couple of things:

I see "No asshats", I can guess... Is it what it appears?

What does an ad that says "found" mean?

I look forward to the experience with you all.

Thanks for your time in this or future posts.

Mike

I always understood no ass hats means you can’t wear, or trade this, as part of the deal.

It’s a rare, highly specialized term used by particularly conscientious sellers to remind the community that they have both thin skin and a high opinion of themselves—so you should only buy if you are prepared for that.

Don’t forget: extremely thirsty, too.

I’ll dig a bit deeper.
When people list chips for sale in the classified section, there’s often a presumption that unless the ad includes terms to the contrary, the first person who responds with interest, is entitled to purchase the chips. (If you want to read long discussions on this subject, search the term “dibs.”)
The “no asshats” statement was just one guy’s way of clarifying that despite listing the chips publicly, he would decide who he wanted to deal with.
The reason it seems so important is that we routinely buy and sell hundreds and thousands of dollars worth of chips to strangers here, with nothing but trust to protect us or insure us. If somebody starts dealing with people in a way that seems to violate the community standards, their reputation could be questioned, and people might not want to deal with them.

So, laying out specific terms, rules, or expectations in a classified ad, is just another way of covering your ass, to make sure everybody is on the same page, so you don’t piss somebody off, and get called out for it. And “no asshats” is just one guy’s glib way of doing exactly that.

Yes, sellers should be absolutely clear about their terms. But this is a very charitable interpretation.

Ha- I appreciate the responses, both sarcastic and informative.

Thanks again for your time and welcome.

I can see already- this IS a great community of people.
