Hello chipper community, my name is Davis!

I guess the main reason I am here is that I've recently decided to get into hosting home poker games on a more regular basis. I found this forum / community while searching for a casino quality chip set to purchase for my home games. I quickly have realized over the past few weeks how addicting it can be to look at different poker chips lol! Some of the custom clay chip designs I have seen on here are nothing short of incredible.

Hopefully some of you veteran chippers can point me towards a quality set of chips to purchase.

Hello @Davis

I hope you enjoy the ride you are about to embark on..

Grab a hold of your wallet, and most of all, have fun!

Whereabouts in Canada? I'm out west in BC. There are a few of us here on PCF that also play regularly together.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks Ford! I am looking to spend no more than 350.00 CAD. And I was hoping for denominations of 0.25, 1.00, 5.00, 10.00.
So you'll be looking for a used paulson set or a higher end set of china clay/ceramic. Those should fall within what you want to spend

You can take a look at what @The Chip Exchange sale will offer. It goes down on Feb.16th. make sure to check it out. You can find some deals on $1s and $5s, even MINT chips. Worth a look anyways, and nothing, and I MEAN NOTHING beats sampling. Pure and simple. Sampling alone can help morph your budget into realms you didn't know existed. Happy Hunting

EDIT : in my humble opinion, you ought to remove the $10 chip and just buy a barrel or two of $25s or make a custom $20. If you want a $10, you'll likely be making a custom $10 (can add costs) Just a thought @Davis

I'd agree with glitter bombed Brie, but lean on going the casino used Paulson route. I've been buying and selling bike tires since I joined and they have been less than $1 a piece. When I've listed my chips they sell within 24 hours. I can't say that about all CC's. (The HP $20s were a little more)

With your budget is go:
100-$0.25 (solids)
140-$1
60-$5
Then the rest for shipping. Then you have your skeleton and can build onto your set as you choose.

Welcome new friend Mr. @Davis... with your Budget I would not recommend going the Paulson or used casino route quite yet... there are always barrels and shuffle stacks available to try out different chips... Paulsons are fantastic and you have options within the company's. What I mean by that is there are different sized chips, different molds, different inlay sizes, leaded vs. Non leaded (older casino chips)

Over the next few months you will start to learn of these different company's Like Paulson, TRK, BCC, Matsui, Bud Jones, sunfly... the list goes on. But most of these chips average $1 or more per chip... which will definitely prohibit you from buying a large set of playable chips... as my awesome brother @toynoob mentioned you can go Paulson and start with a starter set of a couple hundred chips... typically with an 8 person table playing .25/.50 I would say (60) will never cover a comfortable multi hour game.

My minimum order would be
(100) $.25, (200) $1, (180) $5 and (20) $25...
So that's (500) chips and can cover the table with a $1,625 bank. Something to think about... so 500 chips around $.50 to $.60 per chip ($250 - $300 for the set plus shipping) chip should keep you within budget! That falls into the CC or China clay chips department. And there are still many options within that bracket! A site vendor here and amazing man Mr. Josh @Apache runs in my opinion the best site for ordering these chips which is apachepokerchips.com he has many different chips available that should fit your needs, but as other will tell you before diving in and making a quick decision... buy some samples of each set that he offers and see what you like! I personally recommend the Royals (oversized) 43mm chips, but there are many options in there you may like even better, or possibly the oversized chip isn't what you like... it sometimes goes unmentioned but you should know that if down the road you change your mind and want like to join the rest of us scrub donkeys that serch out higher end chips... then for the most part your CC set typically brings about 50% of it's original value!!

I hope you find something of value in this long ass post and enjoy your chipping journey brother! Fellow chipper Ben
