Hi all! Have completely caught the bug for poker chips after watching Jon Hobby's fantastic channel (and now a happy patron of his work!)

I don't play a great deal of traditional betting games, we play Texas Holdem probably once every few months, but we're all really avid board gamers (particularly heavy economic games, Splotters, 18XX and the like) and you'll never catch me playing games using paper money.

I currently have 400 Majestics from Apache in low denoms (mainly $1-$100) which I've been over the moon about, but got a sample set of Atlantic Clubs in the A mold from CPC and am feeling very ready to upgrade. I'm a bit on the fence still, it's not terribly cheap (I'm just looking at 200 chips but with shipping to Australia it's well over $500USD) and I'm not completely sold on the Atlantic Club $25 chip (it feels really bland compared to the $1 and $100 in particular.)

Anyways, not sure how much I'll be participating, but wanted to say hi and will be keeping a keen eye on the custom designs / mockups forums and group buys!

Down in Canberra, not sure how many locals I'll see here lol. Still glad to see some Aussies on here though, makes me hopeful I might get some chips at slightly easier to swallow prices!

300-400 would suit you nicely mate, maybe three denoms. I play every now and then with my crew and have 400 (25c,$1, and $5), 25c/25c $25 Buy-in.

@CHP TD is in Canberra and is a top bloke.

Depends on what sort of game you play, i would suggest buying at least 400 chips, it would cost the same to ship for 200 chips and you will have enough for a single table game. It be the most cost efficient in the long run.

Yeah, my current set of Majestics is basically 400 chips in 4 denoms (I've got a small number of large denoms) and has been perfect for large cash 18XX games and poker games we've had 7-8 players. I've been thinking about doing a custom set and I think 400 would be good for that, just the price is a bit tricky to justify. Might brew on it a little longer, might need to sell the Majestics first.

The idea gets thrown around at times but I don't know if it's happened recently.

It's not too bad if you just aim for larger amounts IMO. As Phantom said, 800 chips is the max amount they can put into a large flat rate USPS box. So just always order 800 and have it marked as a gift worth $100! haha.

Tommy's right too about shipping FROM Aus being high lately. AusPost did a price increase last year and it's become hard to offload chips back to their motherland. Same rule applies, sell in bulk! It's nearly impossible to sell a single rack back to the USA now unless it's something super sought after!

I guess we are in the middle of friggin' nowhere!

I've been chucking together a CPC design (L3 spots with round inlay) and at 800 chips it'll be around US$1,600, nothing to sneeze at! I've got a few locals who seem interested in getting some of the design though so might be able to split it, not sure I could shoulder that much on my own.
