Hi All,

I recently started watching poker videos, which led me to see how players shuffle poker chips. That got me interested in learning the techniques, and I quickly fell down a rabbit hole exploring different kinds of poker chips, bringing me here to PCF!

I'm not usually one to create an account, as I tend to lurk for years, but I figured now was a good time to start.

A bit about me: when I get into a hobby, I like to go all in. During my research, I discovered Classic Poker Chips and started looking into making a custom set for myself… but then I saw the price O.o I knew it would be expensive, but since I just bought a house and have a mortgage now, I’m trying to be more mindful of my spending. Haha. I also saw their announcement that they are likely looking to sell, which is unfortunate timing for me since I’m just getting into this. Hopefully, they’ll find a buyer who will keep the business going so I can get a set someday in the future.

In the meantime, I picked up some Bank chips from Apache, since I play a lot of board games and wanted something without dollar signs on them. I see those are referred to as China Clays (they’re working well for now) but I just received my Rounders samples from CPC, and wow, they feel completely different. I probably shouldn't have ordered them because now I want a custom set even more!

Anyway, I’m excited to join the community and continue learning about poker chips! If anyone has any obscure resources to check out, I’d love to hear about them. I assume most of the common ones can be found on the site. :)

Welcome...you sound like you're going to fit right in here!!!!!!

Welcome to PCF, @TheDoctor.

Are you interested in custom chips for the novelty or the security (or both)?

If you're only interested in the novelty, there are tons of semi-custom options for relabeling (or over-labeling) casino Paulsons. You won't have unlimited base color and edgespot options, but you can choose the chips you want to relabel, so you have control over that.

Good luck!

Welcome! You'll be happy to know that CPC has a new owner and will live on.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I am not sure I know what security means in this instance, but I am mostly interested in a custom set for multiple reasons. I am a bit of a graphic artist myself and would love to have something that I made that has meaning to my group (though I have no experience with chip labels so would be willing to work with someone who has more) but also I guess novelty. I think any sort of re-labeling would be tough for me since I would probably be picky enough to want the exact edge spotting I want haha.

This makes me so so happy! I was really struggling if I should put an order in now even though it would be tough for me to do, this gives me hope I will one day be able to get my CPC set! Thank you for the post link.

I didn't mention but how I actually got a link to PCF is from a reddit post by who I assume is @Cratty Since they show a bunch of the sets they have uploaded here and I was trying to find out if I could get my hands on that Dune set. I have since learned about group buys and what those are but looks like I missed the Dune set on the Sun mold from Jan. I cant find on that page though, are those ceramic chips? I will probably try to order a sample soon to see how they feel. because while I'm saving up it might be nice to have a custom set for a bit cheaper :) The collector in me is seeing what a slippery slope this can be haha.

Security just means not using a mass produced chip and being worried about someone bringing one into the game from outside. Usually not an issue with a close group of friends.
Ah ok that makes sense. Yea I do not think I am worried about that with a friendly game. I don't intend on inviting strangers to game nights any time soon.
