Hi Everyone,

Well, it's time!

Time for me to introduce myself.

Well, I'm Tyron, currently living in the gorgeous Republic of Ireland, and I am an absolute poker chip addict.

Bit of background info on me:

I was born in South Africa, and made the move over here early last year, along with my wife of 2 years. I grew up around card games with my parents and extended family often playing various games around the dining table.

I developed an interest in poker around the age of 19, when I was invited into a game in one of the residences at the flying school I was attending at the time. I fell in love with the game, and immediately started researching as much as I could about strategy etc., and I played my first real casino cash game around a year later.

I then started hosting a number of regular tournaments for a small business, catering for their regular clientele, and realized that I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes aspect of poker as much as I enjoyed being on the felt. I also developed a liking for dealing.

The regular games started fading out and I took the opportunity to start focusing on my cash and tournament game, reaching a level that I regard as "semi-pro" after months of grinding small stakes cash games and low entry freeze-outs in the underground scene.

Poker took a back seat in my mid-twenties as I developed my career, got married and did all the things you may do during your twenties, sometimes enjoying a cash game here and there with friends and family.

At the moment, I'm looking to get back into the game, and have since played my first tournament in Ireland - loved it, but realized that players here are dramatically different to the kind of players I'm used to. Not a bad thing, though.

A lot of my chip collection is back in South Africa, and it includes a number of current chips of various South African casinos, a couple of European casino chips, along with a mixed bag of the usual composite type. My pride and joy would probably be the Cartamundi Casino Royale set I picked up in the UK about 9 years ago.

For now, my Irish collection consists of 4 chips, and they're all the tourist-y types with leprechauns, horseshoes and the like. I have also been in touch with a really awesome forum member here about possibly picking up a rack of chips from him soon, as soon as the dust has settled after my recent purchase of a tournament set for the home games I'm planning to start in the near future.

Looking forward to hearing from you all, and to being a part of this forum. Please excuse any dumb questions I may have, as much as I realize that there is no such thing.

Have a great day/evening all!

Ty

Welcome! My wife's name before I fooled her into marrying me was O'Toole so there's just a wee bit of Irish in that one, being able to visit Ireland is high on both of our lists for sure. Hope to see you at a game when we get over there at some point in the future. :D ;)

Welcome (y)

Thank you

Thank you, Max D.

Any bit of Irish is enough Irish in my book. Let me know when you're in this neck of the woods and you'll get a guided tour by a friendly face, not to mention a game or two of cards.

You wanted somewhere with a bit more sun maybe? :)

Welcome

Hey, there's enough sun here!

In all honesty, the trade off of good weather for sometimes-cold, sometimes-wet, sometimes-both is well worth it for the kind of life we now get to live.

I'm proud of my roots, but I wouldn't change the move for the world
