Hello everyone. I've been lurking around this forum for a few weeks now, sent some PMs to a few people, but hadn't posted anything yet. I'm a new chipper, looking to start a home game. (I've tried before, but it didn't work out. This time it will.) The only chips I had were dice chips , but I want to get two sets of denominated chips, one for tourneys and one for cash. I've bought several samples, still waiting on some more before I make any purchase decisions. Researching poker chips, breakdowns and tournament structures is what brought me into this rabbit hole of a forum. I'd already started collecting 1$ poker chips from the casinos I visited, but you guys made me realize I was going to be collecting a lot more in the future.
I'm still in college (turned 21 this year), but have been playing poker in live settings since I turned 18 (Yay Canada!), andfor close to a decade online. Since my chip collection is limited to dice chips and samples of various metal slugs/CC/Ceramics, I figured I'd introduce myself by showing you guys pics of Poker chips from around Montreal.
Here's a decent stack from a 1/2 session at Casino de Montreal I played not too long ago.
I'm not a big fan of the 1$ chip, which seems made out of plastic and weighs 7g. The 5$ chip is nicer. The chips sometimes stick together, so I think it could be Bud Jones? Could also just be because the chips are dirty. I've never weighted a 5$ chip. Next time I play there I'll bring one back home to find out. I have some closer pics of the chips:
Another poker room we have close to Montreal is the Playground Poker Club. It's very large and hosts several high-profile tournaments as well as daily tournaments and of course cash games. They have several different sets of ceramics for their tourneys, and I think someone said their cash chips are BJ. I only have pictures of the 1$ chip, couldn't find any stack pics (sorry for the bad lighting, the colors on these chips actually really pop). Weighs 13g.
And finally, I have a 1$ chip from a place called Poker Palace. I've only played there once, on their opening night, so the chip I have is near mint. This place is closed now, which is a bummer because I loved playing there. The ambiance and decor were amazing, dealers were friendly and the servers and massage therapists were hot AF. That place actually used to be called Snake's Poker Club or something similar (was too young to play in those days), but they closed down and reopened as Poker Palace, just to close down again a few months later. The chip I have weighs 14g, but it's actually my favorite chip of them all. Especially love the pink & white color combination, which looked amazing on their purple felt. The background of the inlay is an iconic view of Montreal at night. The holographic ring also looks nicer in person than on the picture IMO.If I ever when I get my first custom chips, I'll probably use this chip as a source of inspiration.
I've never handled actual clay chips/Paulsons, but I'll be heading to Vegas for the first time at the end of August, so I'll see for myself what all the hype is about, and I'll increase my collection considerably!
Hope you guys enjoyed my first post. You'll be seeing me around these forums in the future for sure!
