Hi All,

Greetings from the Philly suburbs (originally from Philly). Been lurking for a few months and decided to join the party. I was away from the felt for about 10 years, but have recently decided to start playing again. Being that I am (supposedly) 10 years more mature, I want to begin compiling a big boy set of chips. Picked up a 1000pc set of Crazyhorse chips (branded Milanos) and they definitely work for the games that I hold. However I have a strong interest in putting together a nice Paulson set, or multiple sets. I know they are hard to come by these days with GPI backing out of the homegame market, but I'm still focused on beginning a hobby of collecting. Therefore, any friendly advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

In terms of interest, I really like the National Poker Series, World TH&C, and Classics. I still don't know a lot about specific casino chips, mainly which are true collector's items and rare finds, but I plan to learn as I go.

Thank you so much for welcoming me and I look forward to catching up soon!

Welcome aboard.

Keep your eyes on the classifieds here. Paulson sets become available from time to time :)

Welcome to PCF. Your in the right place if you want to start spending your loot..........errrrrrrrrrr, collecting chips.

Wife is from North Central PA area (ST. Mary's/Duboise).

Thanks for the warm welcomes! Really looking forward to incorporating myself into the chip community. Never realized how addicted I was until I noticed that I'm spending about 50% of my free time scouring for chips.

My wife laughs at me saying I spend more time looking at chips than playing poker. Was offered a 1000pc Paulson Classic set the other day for $2,000 and she looked at me like I lost my mind. "$2,000 for poker chips? Are you for real?" From there I had to convince her it wasn't actually a bad deal. Needless to say, she'll need some buttering up before I make some big purchases :)

Welcome to PCF!

Or you could just higher a designer and build your own custom set :) I just placed an order for my second custom set in the last 5 months :)

Thanks again for all of the nice responses!

detroitdad - thanks for all of the custom chip info. I really like your sunset set. I have some color blindness, so the vibrant colors and the color consistency across the chips is definitely refreshing. I have a Crazyhorse set and that is one of the biggest complaints I have. Bright pink (or purple, who knows - see color blindness :D) $500 chips look very light pink now, and I never even used them!

Stylin - that's cool that you are from Doylestown. I live in Chalfont, so about 10 minutes away from where you grew up! I would have invited you to the poker group if you were still local

Very cool. I'm actually planning on moving back to the area in the near future, I'll look you up. I still visit a few times a year, I have family there. I build poker tables, and I've done a few free deliveries to the Philly area because its an excuse to spend time with family. :)

That sounds awesome. Let me know when you are in the area. If I'm not having a game, my buddies in Philly likely will be. Thanks!

Welcome to PCF. Lots of great folks here, lots of great info, none of which will go easy on your wallet. :)

Get samples of chips, especially when someone offers up their custom set samples. However, I always recommend people NOT go directly into customs until they get a solid feel for what they want, need, etc...

Paulsons can be had in the classifieds fairly regularly.

When you get some nice chips, you are required to post pics! :)

Thank you so much for the welcome and the advice. I actually just posted a thread about this, so I will certainly note your feedback. Much appreciated!
