I am a college student who puts together a weekly poker game. Looking to get together a respectable 500 chip cash set. Probably either 25/50 or 1/2 games of NLHE. Trying to decide between CC chips like Desert Palms or Pharaoh's Club, or lurk around and buy used Paulsons until I have a playable set, probably a mix of Aztar and PCA.

That is the current struggle, taking up probably too much class time. But, what fun is a hobby if it isn't mildly unhealthy.

Hello everyone!

Zach

Welcome. There are a few of us in the area. Which college? (You can PM the answer if you don't want to put it out there)

Lol @ mildly unhealthy. ...

Welcome BTW. I hit Rochester every thanksgiving.

I am attending Rochester Institute of Technology.

Welcome to PCF!

Welcome!

(With more and more people in the upstate NY / southern Ontario region, we might eventually get a Meet-Up close enough for me to attend!) :D

Welcome Zach! You didn't say what your budget is, but you have good timing to pick up some people's extra Horseshoe $1's and $5's. Possibly also some snappers ($2.50) that could be used as quarters. They are casino used Paulsons that would not cost much more than China Clays.

Initially I was looking to spend around 250 for the set. However if they were Paulsons, I would be looking to spend no more than around a dollar per chip.

Joined at the right time, at $.50/ you have a lot of options including the Horseshoe chips. Boardwalks are a nice option and you can get $.25's. I have a lot of samples if you want to meet sometime.

I'm in the Rochester area, Walworth specifically, several times a year as my wife family is there. Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to PCF Zach..

My second set of chips was the Pharaoh's Club and they are great, I then moved to a mixed set with Chips bremerton Pair O Dice roulette's and Empress chips, then I gathered an Empress set that then turned into a MINT set of Empress casino chips, then a few more Paulson sets and now, WELL NOW, Im waiting for my custom set to arrive from CPC..

Enjoy the journey..

Welcome. My Sister, Dad and other relatives live in Greece/Rochester. And I think my Brother did a year or two at RIT in the seventies.

The standard chip buying advice is get samples, samples, samples..................and then buy china clays. However, with the Horseshoe Cleveland chips causing such a stir, you may want to get samples ASAP.

I have noticed that Rochester area Craig's List sometimes has some amazing chips (Paulson's, and CC's (often group buy CC's)), but those usually come from someone here.

Yeah, I sent a few pms, but missing the actual sale makes it hard to get enough 1s and 5s to put together a horseshoe set. Unless someone has 2 extra racks of 1s and ~150 extra 5s, I will have to look elsewhere.

The actual Sale hasn't happened yet. You missed the "Presale" Sale. If Jim follows form, there will be a HUGE sale soon - perhps Black Friday?????

Send me a PM. I can probably help.

Ahhh..... I didn't realize. Thank you. Any idea about how much the chips will be?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, you should check your breakdown against the recommended breakdowns that I am sure exist somewhere (?) on this site. I think you can probably easily accommodate .25/.50 and 1/2 with 600-700 chips (assuming 10 handed). Either or may be tight with 500.

Calling BGinGa!

They have, in the past, been more than the presale prices (Soooo many factors must go into exactly how much more). Which means they'll still be the best Paulson deal that you are likely to find anywhere.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone, I just completed my first Paulson cash set! This is a great community.
