Hello everyone,
I'm Tom from South-Eastern Wisconsin. At 52 years of age, I'm jumping into collecting vintage poker chips at a relatively late period in my life. I grew up around antiques and collectibles all my life, and having parents who were not only older than the average parents of people in my age group, but those who passed the antique bug down to me, I've seen and collected some pretty interesting items in my life--from vintage flashlights, playing cards, Telechron clocks, older rotary-dial telephones, a few Bakelite tube tabletop radios, and several other esoteric items.
I'm hoping this is a good place to learn about the vintage poker chip hobby from others who are knowledgeable about this sort of thing. My interest is leaning toward the various designs of molded clay, pressed composition, early plastic, and "paranoid inlay" chips from USPCC and others from the early-to-mid 20th century, because that's what I grew up with as a kid. My grandparents (both maternal and paternal) had a lot of these older-style chips and that's what got me interested.
Thanks very much and best wishes,
-Tom-
