Hello,

I'm relatively new to the chip game. Unfortunately I'm jumping into this community out of some disappointment after trying to complete my first set.

I bought the Venerati's from sidepot (now buypokerchips) back in 2016 and was wowed. I'm an avid board gamer so they replaced paper money for nearly all of my games. I only got higher denominations and now that I'm a bit more into poker I was hoping to flesh out the lower denominations to be able to play cash games easier with friends. (I only have 400 and I really wanted 500 to fill my case) However, the Venerati chips now in production are different than the ones I bought two years ago. Not a fun discovery to make.

The current Venerati's are definitely tinted yellow and the details are a little blurred in my opinion. Also, I've noticed chips in my recent order with glaring imperfections when none of the 400 I bought initially were significantly flawed.

Anyhow, just trying to give a word of warning, but I'm not here to complain. I'm hoping to learn more so that I can avoid issues like this in the future and see if there might be a way to actually complete my set or find a better one.

Pictures for those interested. Original 2016 chips are the bottom two rows. I only have current yellowish Venerati's in 1, 5, and 25K denominations.

Yep, somewhere along the time line, things changed with the Venerati line. Once great chips with vibrant colors at a great price, now, not so much. Real shame, too.

Oh, and welcome to PCF. (y)

Yeah, I reached out to buypokerchips and they were actually really understanding, willing to refund them and everything. I think they know how people feel at this point. I'm not too upset about it. They work for now, and maybe I'll get lucky and find someone selling some of the original ones.

Welcome. I’m sorry that these chips don’t appear to be the same quality printing. Looks to me that the printer was out of red.

Ugh. You're right to be disappointed given the variance between print runs. Even without the variance, there seems like too big a chance of dirty stacks between the 5k and 25k . :(

Still, if you ever are in mind to replace them you've come to the right place.

Yeah, the 5's aren't terrible, just not as rich as the originals. However, the yellow on the 1s is really that blinding in person. It'll give you a headache if you look at them too long.

Yep, I'm trying to see if I can buy the originals off someone first before I spend all my savings again. But I've dangerously already got my eye on other sets.

Welcome!

I have had a similar experience with other chips. The only thing to do is to buy moar chips.

..also a fellow avid boardgamer.

What break down are you looking to purchase? I might have a friend willing to let some go

That would be amazing! I only need 50 1s and 50 5s in order to complete the set. But I'd buy up to 100 of each if that's possible. I'd like 10 more 25Ks too but that's not necessary. Let me know if it's possible and we'll work something out.

There are so many other chipsets I have my eyes on already. I'm considering getting chips themed around each game I'd use them for. (That'd be over the top, but a fella can dream, right?)

Sadly, it's not a dream for some of us...

For introducing new players to poker, a T5 set with slow blinds so newbies dont get sacked early. Also the top row and bottom rows were supposed to be the same colors, so I understand your dilemma....

I'm on vacation for another week. I'l check when I get back (you might have to remind me).

Welcome to PCF. Normalcy has no business here.

I'm all for shunning normalcy as long as I have enough money for rent at the end of the month. I think I'd starve if I tried to build a collection to rival yours.

What's the name of the Japanese inspired chipset you have? I love that color scheme.
