Hello all ~
I recently retired and moved from the Dallas area to the northeast corner of Washington State. About the only thing the two states have in common is the lack of a state income tax. We've traded off some convenience, but gained much in the way of scenery, wildlife, and tolerable weather (four actual seasons!). Mountains, crystal clear rivers & lakes, and Canada literally ten minutes up the road (Rossland and Trail, BC) - Loving it!
I've enjoyed poker chips more than most of the people in my previous circles, and I've collected a few sets of clays and ceramics over the years and built a couple of tables. To indulge my passion I hung around Scott Keen’s site and then followed the exodus to PMC. I also frequented ChipTalk, and followed the exoduses from there to ChipChat and then here. I wasn’t a big contributor to any of the sites, but enjoyed them each to some extent.
In my closet are Paulsons from The Virgin River Casino (25¢), Riviera (50¢), Aliante Station ($1), President New Yorker ($5), Mesquite Star ($25), and Casino Aztar ($100); Hot stamped (initals) TR Kings; a small tournament set of BCCs (Speakeasy label, interlocking T mold); a large set of Bud Jones Westside Lanes for cash games; Venerati ceramics from ????, Grand Treasury ceramics from ????, a tournament set of ceramic Nevada Jack Skulls, a small heads up set of ceramic Nevada Jack Martini Club, a set of 300 ASMs (blank red, white and blue) with the roman mold, and an old set of 300 anchor chips (red, white, and blue).
Outside of the closet; I have a custom set of ABC ceramics (1¢ - $20) capable of handling a range of cash games and a hot stamped set of BCCs with the interlocking T mold for tournaments. Hopefully I can find 7 to 9 people around here who also enjoy a good game.
Recently I became concerned about the vulnerability of the clay tournament chips as they’ll be played over a hardwood/laminate floor. I decided to order up some China clays, give them a personal touch with custom labels, and use them in lieu of the BCCs when carpet isn’t under the table. Maybe I’ll put an area rug under the table at some point, but until then... an excuse to buy more chips!
I ordered up a bunch of samples, drew up a couple labels, and decided the Claysmith Milanos paired best with one of the labels. The chips shipped out from Indiana yesterday, so now I have to decide on a print vendor for the labels. Something tells me I don’t have to look too far.
Now then: I got a great deal on the 400 BCCs (mint condition; used but never played) and - to save them from probable harm - I’m spending more than I paid for them to get 400 China clays and 800 labels. If you see the rationale, then I am among friends!
My wife just doesn’t understand.
Beyond poker and poker chips, my interests fall to fishing, minor woodworking, good food, reading, movies (the more mindless the better), and patronizing antique stores off the beaten path.
I may not post often, but I’ll check in occasionally, and when the Milanos are labeled I’ll post them up in the appropriate thread.
Thanks for being here and putting out the welcome mat!
