Recently, I caught the bug and I am excited to start building my own home setup!

A brief background about myself, I grew up playing the occasional poker tourney, and in college I had a buddy that would host monthly tournaments. Fast forward a few years, I have been working out of state for about 5 years and now my company is helping move back home closer to family and friends. Now, I have a network of friends that are all interested in getting a regular poker tournament setup again, and I am going to be the host for these tournaments. :)

Over the past few weeks, I have been lurking on PCF and other websites to get an initial take for what I envision for my setup at home and now I made the jump to create an account to be a little more interactive.

I look forward to learning from everyone, as there is a lot of experience here!!!

Welcome. I look forward to seeing your setup. Have any ideas to share yet?

Frankly, I am still trying to understand the what is best for me, since I'll be playing a fair amount of cash games, tournament style and the occasional blackjack with close friends and family.

My hope is that I can buy a single quality set that will last me a long time, and will also meet all of my above needs (as I type this out I feel like I am asking for a lot).

Below are some of the notable mentions when it comes to what I am looking to get out of my setup.
  • Mainly be playing Texas Holdem (both cash games and tournaments).
    • Will not be playing cash games and tournaments simultaneously.
  • Not sure how I want to structure my starting stacks for tournaments, but I know that the typical turnout for tournaments will be 5-8 people.
    • Historically, we have played at a close friends single table tournaments where we each started with $5000 work of chips with denoms of $25/$100/$500/$1000.
  • Occasional black jack, where most will start with $20-$40, so having $0.25 and $1 denominations is a must.
To be honest, I still have a lot to learn, so I have held off on starting a post/thread until I have the basics down.

From an aesthetics standpoint, I really like the Dunes chips that Apache poker previously sold, but I didn't personally like that they have stickers on the chips themselves (seems like they would wear easily with extended use).

On the other hand, I really like the Elite Poker Chips but I'm waiting until the Apache store is open again so I can order a sample set.

Ultimately, we'll see as I continue to learn more and try out different samples. I'm trying to avoid making an impulse buy and really thinking through what I want, since my hopes is that this set will last me a long time. :)
