I'm looking to get a 500 piece cash set for 5-10 players that like to rebuy. The blinds are usually set by the people who are interested in playing after our tournament that night, so they range from 25c/50c up to $1/$2. After researching & punching numbers for hours, I feel one of these two options will work the best.

I'm looking for opinions and thoughts on how these stack sizes will play out in real life and if this will provide good coverage for the different blind structures.

Option #1:
100 x 25cent
125 x $1
125 x $5
75 x $25
50 x $100
25 x $500

Total Bank $20,150

Option #2:
100 x 25cent
100 x $1
125 x $5
100 x $25
50 x $100
25 x $500

Total Bank $20,750

This post I wrote just for you...

for a 1/2 you'll never get the 500s on the table, you don't have enough 5s in either break down

To just give you the answer.. you can't do it in 500 chips.

Here is what I would suggest

.25 x 100
1 x 200
5 x 300
20 x 100
100 x 20

That will cover everything you need for a single table

For variable stakes, 500 chips are just too few. With 600-620-640 chips (having in mind storage in a Versa Deluxe case) it's marginally possible.
100x Non Denominated, to play as either .25 or .50, or even $2 in bigger games.
200x $1
200x $5
80/100x $25
20/40x $100

Edit: If you and your friends can afford games with $500 chips present, buy at least a 1,000-strong upper quality "american clay" set.

Yes! Nex's post looked the most interesting. I wanted a BR set which would stretch my budget so 800 chips vs 500 made a bit of a difference for me.

This was the post I arrived at my numbers actually. Made an excel sheet and everything, so thanks for writing it! I also appreciate the straight up answer since I'm new to this.

I didn't consider non-denominated chips, so that's an interesting angle. Thank you!

It seems the consensus is that it's not enough chips so thank you all for the input. I'll dish out for a bigger set.

Those breakdowns are too top heavy. Spreading from 25c/50c to 1-2 while still allowing a lot of rebuys is a very tall order for 500 chips.

Something like:

80x25c
150x$1
150x$5
80x$25
40x$100

is as close as I can imagine while still keeping it at 500 chips. Realistically you'll want at least 600, or to accept you'll have to limit rebuys at $1/$2.

You’ll never use the bigger denoms, I suggest removing the $500, using less $25 and $100, and going much higher volume on the $5.
