Hello, fellow chippers !
I have been a longtime member, enjoying the beauty of Paulson Poker chips, but who is far from an expert. So, I am looking for "Paulson Casino de Isthmus" experts for some help...
Someone from our poker group told me that he has a friend that is looking to part with some Paulson poker chips. Knowing my taste for quality chips, he thought I would be interested... and of course, I was ! So... that guy has 300 Paulson Casino de Isthmus that he is looking to sell... The chips look great, mint quality, but the breakdown is weird... don't know I will be able to have any use for them...

300 chips total :
0.50$ = 19
1$ = 82
5$ = 60
25$ = 50
100$ = 70
500$ = 11
1000$ = 8

Here is the picture I have...

So, can the experts tell me the value of a set like this, to give me an idea if I will make a good deal ? ;)
Thanks !

Never Fear! CDI Expert Chris is here! lol (self proclaimed CDI Expert)

So ill be honest. This is a weird breakdown. Its not really a Cash Set, nor a Tournament Set, so that does hurt the value selling the set as is. However its a good start to BOTH!

If I had a 98CDI chip for every time CDI value came up on this forum, id have my 98CDI tournament set by now!!
IMO I think these chips can go anywhere from $2.25 to $3 a chip if in very good condition. Some will say less, some will agree, but like I said its my opinion. I love and have owned both sets. The 98 version and the 2005 version.

Its the breakdown however that hurts, so use that as your advantage when negotiating a price.

Let me know if you have any further questions! Happy to help, and welcome to the forum.

@Steppenwolf @horseshoez @allforcharity

I think a side shot is a better indicator of chip quality, as you can see wear, chips, sometimes discoloration. If they are mint, then as @Polochris said, the breakdown could work in your favor to get the lower end of the price range. I'm not as familiar with CDI 05 prices, so I tagged a couple other people who I think know 98/05.

Well said Chris, I agree sir... to add, there is an ongoing debate of the value of these chips more than willing to share how I would value the lot. Because there has been an obvious break between cash and tournament chips in this series. Why? I believe it is security since there are many of these chips in the wild!

Break down is definitely odd... no idea what the owners thoughts were on these. But based off of what they are bringing here and on Feebay I would say the following.

19 ($.50) + 82 ($1) = 101 × $1.80 = $181.80
60 ($5) x $2.25 = $135
50 ($25) + 70 ($100) + 11 ($500) + 8 ($1000)= 148 x $3.00 = $414
Added together would put the value around $730.80 so if you could get it for less than $700 I would say you have a starting point for both a cash and tourney set and at that point get to choose which way you want to go!! The higher denoms are tough to find for a decent price unless you're will iij ng to pay $4 a chip. A couple of members here have racks of the blue $1 available for $180 - $200 a rack...

I have some cash denoms (50) - $.50, (110) - $1 and (65) - $5 that I would be willing to trade for some of the higher denom chips if you were to decide to go in the cash set direction, still with the assessment of values stated above. It's a slow build but definitely awesome chips worth the investment if you entertain the idea of building your own set!! Good luck with your journey I hope at least some of that helps... fellow chipper Ben

My set has grown since this picture but that is most of them.

Looks like the breakdown could work for a T5 base T2000 starting stack tournament set... for up to 5 players. The lower denoms could also work for up to 5 players, assuming you don't mind smaller stacks and lower stakes. But as @Ben8257 mentioned, probably best that you don't use the same chips for both cash and tournaments.

I have been eyeing CDIs myself. You have ‘05 CDI:

98 CDI ~ $2.50-3.25 per
05 CDI ~ $2 per

there are currently ‘05 CDIs in the classifieds at $1.80 per that have been sitting out there for awhile.

As to value, that is definitely something contentious around here lately. I agree with @Ben8257 the higher denoms have not been available for less than $3 a chip for some time now, and a handful of racks of 50c fracs, $1s and $5s have all been gotten for $1.80 to $2.25 in recent months. My own cost this year into 2,500 of these averaged $3 a piece. I still own 1,100 cash chips but would not sell them for less than $2.50/ea.... which would be a $550 loss on 1,100 chips. So you see from a resale perspective, they may not be worth as much as you would have to pay to actually attain a viable breakdown. But if you want a low denom/cash breakdown and are able to be patient, you could potentially piece a set together for as low as $2 a chip.

New here, always just used my friends cheap sets in the past. Can I ask, what is a good amount of each denomination for a tournament set with maybe 6 or 7 people with rebuys. Seems like this is a good spot to ask. Every set I see on here has varying amount of each denomination.

For the record @Steppenwolf I would also be taking a loss on my low denom chips as well... honestly $2.25 to $2.50 is what I paid for most of those

The 98 CDIs vary more than that. Assuming we are talking about mint chips here, the 1K are $4 a piece if you can find any. The fracs may be more like $4.25. Shaped inlays go for about $1 more than regular inlays. $3 would be a good price on any other denom. Some can be had for $2.75. Others won't be sold for less than $3.25 or perhaps even $3.50.

If this "set" is coming from a friend, I would ask how long he's had them, where he bought them, and how much they cost him. If they came from Paulson, then $1.25 a chip was the going rate for a while. Perhaps he would pass along his cost (or even discount for previous use). If eBay, then he may have paid $4 or more per chip and could be offended if you offer half that price. I would also want to know do you plan to play cash or tournament games with these chips? How many players? What stakes?

He says he bought the chips in Las Vegas 12 years ago (I guess around 2007)... He also has a 500 chips tourney set that he doesn't intend to sell :(
My original purpose was to use the chips for cash games, but with that breakdown, it would be impossible...

Vegas? He got them from The Paulson store for around $1/chip likely.

if you snagged them, and traded the more valuable higher denoms here for more lower denoms, it’d be a good start. Those are beautiful chips. Good luck.

I agree completely. You could at least parse out all the $1Ks and $500s and all but 20 of the hundos. Personally, I would aim to put together an 80/20 rack of $25s and hundos... even if you don't play that rich, b/c it helps out the breakdown for resale. If the chips were bought directly from Paulson, you might be able to get them for a deal.

My opinion is that good condition CDI05 chips should go for about $2 to $2.25 on average. You could buy the lot from your friend and then start filling them out over time with sales here, on eBay, etc. They tend to be more "available" than CDI98S. If your friend lets them go for less than $2 each then it's already a decent deal and you should get while the getting is good.

Well, I got them for around 1.20$ (usd) a piece... So I think I made a really good deal ! They are in great shape, mint condition :)
Now it's decision time... do I start shopping to complete either a cash or tourney set ? We will see !

Thank you all for your input... really appreciated !

Sick score!

I don't think these were ever sold at Paulson stores, which I think were long-closed by 2007. These chips were made under control of GPI, and produced for Trademark Poker as the distributor.

If Vegas, more likely from either Spinetti's or Gamblers General Store -- generally sold for $1.19/chip back then.
