Backgrounds
I have always wanted some nice spotted clay Hotstamp chips but very hard to get in vgc and playable quantities especially for an EU buyer… or without selling a kidney…
I had the opportunity to see the CPC Hotstamp chips the bank custom set from @Kid_Eastwood and really liked the result.
So I decided to start a custom CPC projet myself but wanted to keep it “affordable”. custom dies implies a large increase in budget and a much more complex project… and I like a lot the fractional stock dies created during the PCF GB in 2017 runned by @Shaggy
So I decided to go for the silver shoe dims and quarter… but I wanted a full set so decided to had two inlaid chip to complete the set shaggy was ok with the idea so the theme was confirmed.
Design
Mold :
I choose the Horse Head mold for 3 reasons :
1- it is one of my favourite CPC mold
2- it matches the theme perfectly: Louisville runs every year the Kentucky derby a well known horse race
3- it is one of the cheapest
Stamp color :
Of course with silver shoe fictive Casino name… gold foil would have been weird so definitely silver (and I like the classy finish of that color on Hotstamp chip)
Inlay :
I wanted something simple to complete the fracs so I decided to go for the same design but adding a silver horseshoe… the silver shoe of a horse is a silver horseshoe right ?
And it was in the same time a tribute to horseshoe casino sets.
Base color and spots :
My preferred Colors for chip are pink, yellow, blue, grey… so base color for 4 chips was quite easy to choose.
Budget still in my mind I needed to find a way to do an attractive and colored set but keeping it “affordable” so tried with L2 but finally decided to go for L3 and I like 2D14 - 3D14 chips so it was my choice. Much more difficult choice for the spots and I was happy to own a color sample for that….
Use of the yellow range of color to make the link between all chips of the line up.
