Hi all,

Joining from Brisbane and hoping to get hold of some chips outside of the limited Australian market (and maybe see if anyone is hosting some low stakes cash games around here).

Cheers,
Ash

Welcome aboard. You can never have too many Austrians around

Heyo

Always good to see more Aussies on here.

I'm in your general area and host micro-stakes stuff regularly but infrequently by PCF standards, although not many cash games for lack of consistent interest. Still working on a core group.

Hey mate, where in QLD are you located? :-)

Awesome, yeah mate I'm Northside too, up around Caboolture. I'd be up for anything low/micro stakes. Only said cash because it seems more straightforward for newbies/fish (like myself) and I was planning on hosting 5c/10c games in the future.

Welcome man! How hard is it to get a set into Aus? My yank friends will be returning to Queensland after the Christmas holiday. Maybe they can hand carry you a set. IDK

It's AU$12 to ship a playing card over here from NA so probably obscenely expensive for any decently sized set. We're lucky that card manufacturers offer free card replacements with that kind of insane shipping cost.

Looked to be around $150-200AUD for shipping last I checked, which hurts the soul a bit. Will be a little while before I can cough up the money (mostly due to convincing the wife) for a decent set, so after Christmas might be a bit soon but really appreciate the offer, thanks mate!

I'm hoping to get on board with a future group buy I've seen run from time to time. That will hopefully cut down on the shipping costs if there are any other Aussies in the buy.

I'll have to get on to that too. Been relying too much on Aliexpress for accessories and really ought to look into the nicer stuff.

Where did you get your chips? I'm not seeing a lot of options here beyond Jack's poker, pokershop.com.au and slowplay.

I didn't mind some of the samples from those (e.g. Jack's port royals), but the china clays I see circulating around online sound like better value.

I have Monte Carlos, Port Royals, and dice chips only all from Jacks. I've ventured into craps recently which requires an enormous amount of chips to deal, so anything above the mid-range that PRs are part of is right out. I've always been preferable to spending more on all the extra bells and whistles to have sort-of luxury everything and all the conveniences you can think of rather than just really nice chips.

I'm getting the Millions tournament set from Jacks too, and then probably selling off the MCs or using them to supplement craps and/or roulette banks.

I do like ports quite a lot but I hadn't planned on needing more than 500 chips total (at least for the foreseeable future), and even that feels like a steeper price for my first set. I've had my eye on the millions too, clean design and easy to read.

Spending on the accessories as well instead of expensive chips is probably the best move in terms of overall playing experience.

Nice chips are an investment that will hold their value

If you want something outside of the limited options in Aus, you have to accept the massive shipping cost. Gotta pick a time when the exchange rate is good too!
