Just looking for some help/advice with blind structure and starting stacks for a higher denomination chip set.
The denominations on my chips are:
500
1000
5000
25000

Lets say.....3 table tourney, 27 players with an hour of rebuys.
Thanks guys!

Others here are far more experienced at creating tourney structures and I'm sure they'll chime in.

As a preliminary matter we still need more info - how long do you want the tournament to last and what are your chip quantities? Normally you figure about 30-35 chips per player and they're going to be your lower two maybe three denominations. Going from 500-1000-5000 may pose some logistical issues: Since your second chip is only double your first they are both going to color up rather quickly. Then you're left with two denominations so you'll need more of the higher chips as well but it is what it is.

Do you have a structure that you like using lower denominations? If so you can start with that and scale it based on your chip denoms. Mathematically you've got 5, 10, 50, and 250s. Or 50, 100, 500, and 2500.

I have:
200 - T500
300 - T1000
300 - T5000
100 - T25000

And not sure about length, maybe 5 hours roughly? (Enough time to start around supper, and still make it to the bar lol)
And yes, there is a 10k one that we use that I found on here that's pretty awesome.

In short I don't think this is going to work.

To make a tournament longer you use longer levels, particularly at the beginning when the blinds are relatively low. But to do that you need enough chips in the right denominations. Normally you shoot for a 4:3:2:1 distribution with each chip being 4 or 5 times more than the one before it. I've played a 25 person tourney that had 1,000 chips. Even though the distribution was right and there were no rebuys or add-ons it was somewhat annoying because folks were always making change.

Here's what's going to kill you:
  • At an absolute minimum you need 1,000 chips but only have 900. If you want to allow rebuys you're going to be even shorter.
  • You've got 500 of your lowest two denominations, but you need 700.
  • Actually you need even more since your lowest two denominations are so close to each other in value.
Maybe you could treat your T1000s as T2000s to help a little but that will get confusing if the amount is stated on the chip. People will forget and get cranky when they screw up because of it. IMHO you're better off either having no denominations on the chips and posting a color chart or using what's stated.

Perhaps someone else will come along with a better idea that I'm not seeing.

For a big-stack tournament, your set can be used to support up to 25 players:

T100,000 starting stacks:
8 x T500
11 x T1000
12 x T5000
1 x T25K
----------------
32 chips = 100K

Chip set:
200 x T500
275 x T1000
300 x T5000
100 x T25K (includes 15x for color-up of T500/T1000 chips and 60x for up to 15 re-buys)
----------------
875 chips used (of 900 in set)

Blind structure:
100K stacks (200BB)
15-minute levels
lvl sb bb
L1 500 500
L2 500 1000
L3 500 1500
L4 1000 2000
L5 1500 3000
remove T500 chips, end re-buy period
L6 2000 4000
L7 3000 6000
L8 4000 8000
L9 6000 12000
L10 8000 16000
remove T1000 chips
L11 10000 20000
L12 15000 30000
L13 20000 40000
L14 30000 60000
L15 40000 80000
L16 60000 120000 ***
L17 80000 160000 ***
L18 100000 200000
L19 150000 300000
L20 200000 400000

Tournament will typically end no later than L16/L17, or approximately 4.5 hours (including breaks) when using 15-minute blind levels. Using 20-minute blind levels will extend total tournament length to around 5.5 hours.

You can also run the event with larger T150K stacks (300BB, 8/11/12/3) and no re-buys, which adds roughly 1/2-hour length to the above times (should end no later than L18).

Very much appreciated BG.
Thanks!
