Highest Price Per Chip (5 Viewers)

I’m just getting into chipping so this feels like a dumb question. If you pay a high price for a rack, do you ever plan on using them in a game or are they purely a display item?

I think it was this one, but I’m going to have to go back and check my records. Working on a rack if anyone has some laying around.

(just kidding, I do not own this chip, nor would I ever pay close to this for a single chip  )

Chips are meant to be played.
I agree

BUT, when you have a workhorse chip (5) that is valued 3x the denom, with a limited (20 racks in my case) available quantity, and market like a dried up prune, losing one is a concern.

I had a player explain they liked to collect a chip from where they play, I was grateful they mentioned it, so I gave them my only sample chip so I didn't have to worry about it.

They go on the table in games where I know the players know they are a big deal and don't want to tilt me off of hosting :wtf:

That’s a whole other debate. It seems like the majority opinion on PCF is that you play with your chips, but I think a lot of the people who never (or rarely) play with their expensive chips, may be keeping their opinions to themselves.

Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $25 or so on a chip.

I would explain to that player that if I was missing a chip after he played, he would be missing some fingers after I caught up with him.

married...4 kids

it was a flex for about a month, then i had to start selling everything off LOL
Just last week a member linked me the Vineyards story of the guy who picked up the big haul from the church.

Wild to think how the community/market valued these chips over the years. They sure are lovely chips, amazing examples of what good design and colour theory can do.

Vineyards and Barclay Bondi Junction hawtstamps make me a big fan of private room chips.

If anyone has more Card Room stories, link me please.

Nail on the head.

Vocal people say play with your chips, but every fu****g classified on here has something like:

“Hate to see these go. Bought this set from Bobs Poker Chips 38 years ago. Mint condition.”
