I'm still very new and wanted to ask for your advice because I'm planning a home tournament. I would be happy to hear your opinion on the topic.
I have the following set:
  • 125 x 25
  • 125 x 50
  • 150 x 100
  • 125 x 500
  • 150 x 1000
  • 50 x 5000
  • 25 x 10,000
Conditions:
  • 6 players
  • 4 hours of playing time
  • 30 minutes per level
  • Starting stack 20000
Questions
  1. Which chips do I use from my set? The smallest chip is either 25 (25/100/500/1000/5000) or 50 (50/100/500/1000/5000)
  2. How many chips does everyone get? My current approach would be 36 ( 8 * 50, 11 * 100, 5 * 500, 11 * 1000, 1 * 5000)
  3. Does the blind structure make sense? (50/100, 100/200, 150/300, 300/600, 500/1000, 1000/2000, 2000/4000, 3000/6000, 6000/12000)
  4. Would it make sense to have chips 25 and 50 both in play?

Thanks :)

• ditch the 50 denom chips

• for 25/100/500/1000/5000 denoms, go with a 12/12/5/6/2 starting stack (20k). 12/12/5/11/1 also works.

• blind structure:
L1 50 100
L2 75 150
L3 100 200
L4 150 300
replace 25s with 1000s
L5 200 400
L6 300 600
L7 400 800
L8 600 1200
L9 800 1600
replace 100s with 1000s
L10 1000 2000
L11 1500 3000
L12 2000 4000
L13 3000 6000 **eot**
L14 4000 8000
L15 6000 12000
L16 8000 16000

Six players will finish by L13. That is 6:30 plus breaks with 30-minute levels, or 4:20 plus breaks with 20-minute levels.

Thanks for the answer, that looks good.
I have two follow-up questions:
  • What would change with a 10k starting stack?
  • What other denoms could generally be played with the set?

10k stacks contain no T5000 chips, and would end a couple of levels sooner.

T25000 denoms are only useful in very large mulri-table events. 25 through 5000 is sufficient for most.

A 10k starting stack would end about Level 10. Given your parameters, you'd want to go 20 minute levels (3.3 hrs) or 25 min levels (4.2 hrs). As far as denoms go, I doubt you'll use anything above 5k chips.

The 20k stack you wanted to do will have a hard time finishing in the 4 hrs you suggested.
