So I’ve been on here a lot he last few days looking into poker chips and tables what not. So there’s about 6-8 of us who play once of month tourney at my place. So I wanted to know what is a good guideline for starting chip stack amount? And blinds? Because tonight 01/31/18 I will be purchasing chips with number denominations on them so our tournement are easier and we don’t constantly have to relay what color chips are what price haha. Again, what is a good starting stack, and I’ve asked on another thread but I’m looking to buy .15cent chips with the denominations of 25/100/500/1k/10k or 25k and are 50 dollar chips even worth buying?

First you don't need T50 chips. One pretty common starting stack is 8/8/6/6 for a total of 10K.

T25 x 8 - 200
T100 x 8 - 800
T500 x6 - 3000
T1K x 6 - 6000

Blinds will depend on how long you want the game to last. That will also determine if you even need the higher denominations.

Don't buy $50s, it's not worth it.

Typical breakdown for most tournament sets is 25/100/500/1000/5000.

Typical starting stacks are 8/8/x/x or 12/12/x/x depending on preference and starting stack sizes.

For example for a typical $10k starting stack with 25/50 starting blinds (200bb) you could go with 12/12/7/5 or 8/8/8/5.

Get samples before you buy.

You guys are awesome! Now my next question. I’m only looking to spend about .15 cents a chip. And I’m between Monaco/Monte Carlo/showdown are there any others that are the same or better at this price? I’m going to buy tonight when I get off work.

Me and my buddy like to start with mor chips. So like 12/12/x/x would be best because we like to play most of the night so it can last without rebuys and whatever.

I do understand. But which would be the more durable of those mentioned. I do like the Monte Carlo but I’ve heard a lot of people say that Monaco are better than the Monte Carlo higher quality.

I’ve often thought the showdown chips (and the others of the same type you list) are a bit drab on their colors when compared with other offerings in the same category.

Have you looked at “The Mint”? They’re about the same price range and a lot more colorful. Chipcave.com has these for 15c.

The same chips with better inlays (imho) can be had from a Canadian company straightpokersupplies.com; specifically their “Monaco Millions” chips.

Unfortunately these will run about 26c a chip. Don’t know if that’s a Canadian dollars price though.

I had a set of Mints. Loved the colors and the simple label design, was able to smooth off the rough edges with a plastic SOS pad, but ultimately couldn’t get over the heavy slugged weight.

But they were pretty...

What's your overall budget?
100$ that’s with shipping and everything. I’m only going to buy the number denominations that I’m going to use I.e 25/100/500/1k/5k/25k. I do like the mint poker chips but they are out of 5k chips and I like the poker knights too.

I don’t need the case or anything. I just need the chips themselves.

I like

T25 x 12
T100 x 12
T500 x 3
T1,000 x 7
T5,000 x N (where N is a number that gets me to my desired stack, if greater than T10,000)

this is what we use for a single table^^^^^^^ most of the time

for deep stacks have been known to bump the 500 and 1000 up to:
T500 x 5
T1000 x 11
T5000 Same as above

Yes straight poker supplies is in canadian dollars and i agree the Monaco millions look good but they are 14 gram chips. Way too heavy for my liking. I would strongly recommend getting samples and saving a little extra for something you like

So I got my Poker Knight chips today from @Apache and they’re awesome. Probably within a few weeks I would like to get more from a different set. Maybe higher quality chips. These are great for now. So we might have a game tonight! We are going to have a deep stack game. 12x12x5x11x2(25/100/500/1k/5k). Anybody have recommendations for blinds for this type of game?

Here are my chips

How long do you want the tournament to last? Based on your previous posts, I'm assuming ~8 players with T25K starting stacks.

Would also be helpful to know your set's breakdown, to determine what chips are available for color-ups.

Fwiw, you selected one of the better choices in the 15c/chip category, imo.

The break down is 12x12x5x11x2(25/100/500/1k/5k)

And we want it to last a few hours.

One of the reasons that cheaper chips often have more vibrant colors is that dyes used with the more "plasticy" and typically harder materials are brighter, and additives that make the material softer (and more desirable for poker chips) often diminish that vibrancy.

This accounts for why -- imo -- in the 15c/chip segment, Showdown Club/Poker Knights/Monaco Club >> Monaco Casino/Lucky Horseshoe >> Mint/Desert Heat/Gold Rush >> Monte Carlo/Crown Casino, even though the colors are more vibrant on the lower end of that comparison than the top. The Showdown chips are clear winners over the more colorful Gold Rush chips in my book due to a much better feel -- which to me, is much more important that the vibrancy of the colors.

For similar reasons, the higher-priced and better handling china clay chips all have colors that pale in comparison to any of the "more-plastic" chips listed above.

as in, total number of chips per denomination in the set..

lol, can you be a little more specific? A few hours could be anywhere from three to six or seven.
Oh I’m sorry. It slipped my mind. 125x125x100x125x25(25/100/500/1k/5k)

BG is here, so you're bound to get a quality structure to play with. Nice chips, and have fun!

If you're thinking about upgrading already I would suggest jumping up to nothing less than Ceramic Hybrids which are going to be in the $0.80-$1 per chip range. I wouldn't personally upgrade to something like a China Clay (Milano or Majestic), instead saving up for a great hybrid or Clay set.

I would suggest you add on to the current set you have so that it serves you well for awhile and in the meantime you start to gather lots of samples to get an idea of what you like most.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for group buys, you'll likely get the best deals there!
