I am looking to branch out from nhle and plo. I was curious if anyone had recommendations for literature on HORSE type games or any non NHLE/PLO games in WPT or WSOP?

Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players by David Sklansky and High-Low Poker for Advanced Players by Ray Zee should give you a good leg up on stud, stud 8, and Omaha 8.

I'm in the middle of reading A Poker Player's Guide to Mixed Games by Ken Lo, and it looks good so far and covers a lot of games not addressed in other literature, but I hesitate to specifically recommend it without having finished it yet.

Also notable are Super System and Super System 2. Though I don't consider either book the bible of any particular game, they're both good quick-and-dirty primers for several variants.

I assume most of the above are for limit poker?

I used to make HORSE videos for pokerstrategy.com, stoxpoker.com, and cardrunners.com after they acquired stoxpoker. You can still find my strategy videos online by searching for "RainmanTrail" poker videos. They may require a subscription to view some of the content, but I own the rights to them and could probably host a few videos for you on a private server if you're interested in viewing them. There are also a few of my videos floating around that have been translated into Russian and a few other languages that I believe are without paywalls.

Here's a link to my videos on pokerstrategy.com. I believe the first 5 or 10 minutes of each video are offered as a free preview for non-subscribers.

I've played stud with Sklansky. He's terrible. As in really, really bad. He's a SUPER nit with no concept (or a severely flawed understanding rather) of ante structures and how they dictate proper strategy (a fundamental aspect of stud games). I've also read his Stud for Advanced Players book and do not recommend it (although it's a better book than he is a player). Ray Zee's Hi-Lo book is better, but it still has some pretty big leaks and is pretty outdated material.

Chip Reese's content in Super System is worth reading.

I would stick to current strategy videos and strategy forum sites like twoplustwo.com and pokerstrategy.com where you can follow the advice of proven winning players.

Yeah hook me up. I am really looking to branch out and hoping to make it to wsop 2019. I have another sabbatical coming up and may use it during that time. Gives me 2 years...

Anyone know any good apps or play sites other than poker stars? Poker stars doesn't seem to have many games other than plo and nhle.. or I am using the wrong search criteria.

PokerStars has HORSE cash and tournaments as well as Stud and Stud8 cash and tournaments. Just modify your search criteria settings and you'll see them. PS also has other games like 2-7 lowball (single and triple draw) along with Badugi, and Courchevel that can be played as either Limit, Pot Limit, or No Limit.

Also have a look at the Resources tab at the top of the PCF page. There is a PDF file on different forms of poker. It is and excellent resource.

Best of luck with your development and trip to the WSOP!
