Not certain. But aren't they commonly referred to as 8spot or 3spot (tri-moon)? I've never seen them referred to as 16-spot - granted, I don't may much attention since I'm not in the market.

Search the classifieds for "snapper" in title only and you'll see at least a handful referring to "8 spot"

I'd refer to them as 8 spot chips (as in 8d18).
