I promise I did do a search and looked through 10 pages of results but could not find a thread with general advice on hot stamping chips. I'm a make it yourself sort for a lot of things, and between an upcoming CPC set I want to put hot stamps on and a limit set I'd also like to hot stamp, I'm considering if I want to get a machine and do them myself or not.

Does anyone have a link or resource handy for what specs I should be looking for in a machine suitable for poker chips and/or tips and tricks on being successful at it? Have started doing a bit of general research but some focused information would be greatly appreciated.

There isn't much. Past the few who have done it or do it.

At least it doesn't turn out I just can't use the search feature for crap. I'll probably have someone else do the cpc tourney set because I'd be more sad about messing those up as a newbie stamper. But I'm not sure anyone else would wanna take on overstamping the diecar limit set and even if they did I'm not sure if I can justify paying for the 2000 stamps on a set which isn't likely to see much use.

But I wants it, my precious.

I sourced the chips for , commissioned a design for and paid for a rack of chips that were hotstamped by @Josh Kifer I'm pretty sure only a few people has seen. Most cause I haven't shown the off yet

Best to PM Josh or @ekricket and pick their brains. It seems like it's an art rather than an exact science. Believe @AK Chip has not so distant experience with it too.

Yeah, if it comes down to it I'll likely find a way, but doing the work itself gives me an additional layer of satisfaction and enjoyment in the end product too.

I was trying to avoid directly messaging and asking people who make a living or side hustle doing the work because I always feel a little tacky contacting someone and being like "tell me your secrets so I can not be your customer."

@Josh Kifer or @ekricket are the two best guys for that.

We have a larger machine here at work which could work, but not too sure since you would need extras for testing and more!
Yeah, have a half barrel extra of the orange but no extra of the black and was expecting I would probably wind up a few chips short in a rack or two especially doing it myself. Have some other similar chips I was going to practice on to git gud first as well.

I did look at Spinettis and fired a DM @Spinettis Gaming to ask if overstamping the diecars might be possible there but didn't hear back so I assumed "no" and moved on.

Ah I didn't see that and my colleague hasn't been good at letting me know when you guys send PMs so I apologize about that.

I'll shoot you a PM

@demonnic OP - I've been having the same idea recently. As a diehard DIYer, I love the idea of getting some basic tools and tackling the project myself. Did you find the resources you needed to move forward with this project? A quick search on Etsy revealed a few custom and stock sets of dies that I could get set up for a reasonable cost. I would be curious to know what you learned.

My biggest piece of advice is to not buy anything manual. You can’t control the pressure uniformly and you will get tired of pulling that one armed bandit 2000+ times for a 1000 piece set. If you are doing less than that it’s just not worth your time and effort to get up and running.

It’s like making your own poker chips - sounds great but stocking the materials, making the machinery, and pressing out 1-2 chips at a time just isn’t worth it for a few sets.

That sounds like extremely good advice. I wonder if I'll take it or attempt the frustration  :ROFLMAO: If you were to get a set hot stamped, which vendor/supplier would be your pick?

Josh Kifer is a member and specializes in it. He did my defoil/restamp.

Do you already have chips?
More than I need... but none that would be good for hot stamping. Other than the clays (which are more than I want to pay for this experiment), which sorts would work best for it?

Unless you mill - shameless plug for @Josh Kifer - hot stamping is pretty permanent. Which means you end up with a lot of useless chips if you are just farting around.

If you just want to kinda see what it’s about come to either mine or @Josh Kifer meetups. You can see how it works and how fast you can end up with a colander of useless chips!!
