I’m new here, but went from plastic slug chips to China clay chips to CPC to Paulson chips all within the last 6 months. Once you go Paulson you can’t go back. But I will say a lot of players don’t care about the difference even if they can tell the difference.

My regulars were all shocked I was selling my china clays. They all felt they were “good enough”. But I laid out samples of several China clays, several ceramics, several CPCs, and Paulsons RHC and THC with them knowing nothing about chips. I asked them to choose their favorite (irrespective of color and inlay design). Every single one of the 8 players choose the THC chips. Many of them said the CCs were fine BUT they all could feel the difference and preferred Paulsons. Now that we are playing Paulson they all routinely comment on how nice the chips are.

To us: the biggest amount of difference you can picture, then double it.

To anybody else: not much at all honesty. Players in my game almost universally want a ceramic set. They love Nevada Jacks and borderline lose their shit when I bring out the Happy Days ceramics. couldnt care less about most of the Paulson sets we have played with.


Don't let it deter you though, every once in a while someone in the group gets infected and sees the light, a new chipper is born.

Buy both, try them, find the one you like, then keep exploring. You'll slowly change your opinions over and over until you find the one. It's takes a while.... But it's the process.

Because, more than likely, you'll fall in love and not really be happy with any other chips. I mean, there are a lot of great chips, but there's something special about THC's. Of course, it all depends on your disposable income. My budget doesn't allow it at the moment, but I wish I could afford them.

In terms of the topic of this thread: Paulsons are obviously much superior to CCs but CCs will deliver a "used casino chip" feel, from new. CCs come with rounded edges and in my opinion, they don't stack that great in comparison to Paulson grade chips.

My best advice for you would be to buy a sample set of both. Only then will you be able to see the difference.

Honestly I love the THCs I have. I also love my CCs for what they are, I even really like the few ceramic sets I have.

To me CCs have value as tourney chips because I play a lot of tourneys with large numbers of people so I don't have to sweat people abusing my chips. For cash I prefer my THCs or Ceramics. Less abuse.

I do have a couple of nice tournament sets but they rarely see felt. More for me to look at. I'm not a big fan of that but I still do it. My chips see use most times.

Paulson classics are actually not on the THC mold. They are on the "Paulson chips" mold. Many chippers would claim that the THC mold is better than the Paulson chips mold, but I guess it's up to personal taste. Don't get me wrong though, you are still lucky you purchased the classics back in 2006, they are nice chips!

To answer the OP, they feel very different. CCs are by all means good enough chips for most people, but clay chips is next level. Like others have suggested you should buy a barrel of each and compare. Samples is always the answer.

Huge difference. This year I went from CC to CPC to mint Paulsons. Each one was a step up from the other for me. You can definitely tell the difference in quality, weight, sound, feel and handling.

They way I see it, the higher end chips are like a boat. They are great to play with at someone else's expense.
From a playing aspect, as long as they stack reasonably well and I get paid for the ones I have at the end of the session, the rest is all fluff to me.
