Hi all,

Very curious to hear how you decided/discovered the name for your fictional casino. I've been going through ideas, even ChatGPTing some of them, but I'm not super settled on what I have so far and would always love some more inspiration. I would love to hear from you all and understand how you guys came up with the names for your fictional casinos. Would love to see pictures of them too! Thanks.

Well, not easy.
In my case, Casino La Viña was all about child memories.

I’m guessing this is more of a “how do you come up with a theme” question. What do you love? Is there a place you have a strong tie to? Those questions will help come up with a general theme and I think picking a name is much easier once you have a theme in mind.

In my case, I wanted to get myself a really nice luxury set as a wedding gift to myself. What do me and my fiancée love? Our dogs! Overdone? Probably, but I don’t care. I chose the name “Doghouse Card Club” because in all aspects, being in the doghouse is a bad thing. You make your wife mad? Doghouse. So it just seemed like a funny name for my set and I rolled with it.

Nevada Jacks was actually named after the 2 founders first initials... Nick and Jim. It was a no brainer using the '(N)evada' mold and a card (J).

Do you only mean fictional *casinos*? Or any fantasy/home game set?
Sorry, still fairly new to this forum. I think that's what I mean, but I just assumed that fantasy sets are fictional card rooms and casinos thought up by people.

I dug down extremely deep and wondered, what would be great and retain some resale value? So naturally I just landed on "Robert's Casino" and the rest is history. Genius. I am one with the porch.

Is @Rieguy making fun of me??? My first custom set was "Steve's Card Club." I was never really satisfied and ended up selling them for cheap to be murdered.

IMO if you're asking this question you're not ready for a high end custom set. In the interim I'd either get something high end that can be sold, or maybe go with a Tina hybrid custom set that doesn't cost a fortune.

Once you figure out a theme that's meaningful, go with CPC customs/Paulson semi-customs. Don't rush it.

My two endgame sets are Casino Nacional (a place with history that I love), and Cub 72 (a common theme for friends and I that have played poker together for years). Link: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/the-story-behind-your-set-name.127948/#post-2621538

My club is called the Thanks for Playing Poker Club. The club started as a home game a little over twenty years ago. At the time, several of us played online at a site called Ultimate Bet. Every time you got knocked out of a tournament on Ultimate Bet, it would show a pop up that said, "Thanks for Playing." One of the guys ( a drunk, obnoxious, and bitingly witty stock broker) started saying that to everyone when he felted them. So when we decided to form the club, it kind of stuck. I don't have actual chips to show you yet as they are still being manufactured but here is the set design. C'mon April...

And we always joke about half our guys playing like monkeys with a machine gun, hence the monkey logo.

If you search, I think there is another thread with this same theme.

I Love Stevie Ray Vaughan. I homebrew my own beer, although I haven't for a couple of years. When I was brewing, I called my home brewery Texas Flood Brewing. Here is a label design that I used on my bottles.

When I got involved in chipping back in 2020, I decided to make some custom Tina cards mold chips. Had to have a home casino name, so keeping the Texas Flood theme just seemed like the right thing to do. Then when working on logos and inlay design, I decided to keep the brewing theme on the chips. With the help of a few other people here, I came up with this:

I had a 3 table tournament set made first. With Bounty chips.

Then I did a dealer button.

And Cut cards. Then @TheOffalo created some awesome tuck boxes using the cut card art. Both shown in this full set pic.

My suggestion is to pick a theme that means something to you. Custom chips rarely retain much resale value, so take you time and come up with something good, that you won't get tired of.

Oh wow! To think that a common ceramic chip on the market has such a personal touch is interesting

Yeah. Definitely looking to just get some Tinas as my first starting custom set. CPCs and Paulsons may come later, but I’m a big fan of ceramics right now.

Definitely some good starting tips, thank you. Big fan of dogs too, so great set!

The original name was for our clay chip line but the later ceramic was widely popular and remains in production 20+ years later (although new owner)
