I usually play 1/3 or 2/5 cash games, most often its 6 handed but every once in a while there will be 8-9 of us. Since joining this site I've felt the strong urge to buy every minty chip I see on the classifieds... Need someone to tell me the most optimal/efficient chip grouping + number so I have a real target as I build out my sets

I play in a similar sized game, while my sets are much larger this is what is usually actually put into play:

$1’s—100 to 140
$5’s— 400 minimum. Prefer 500
$25’s—100 to 200
$100’s— 20+

I would build:
$1’s— 100 is plenty if they are hard to find or expensive. 200 is more than you need for 1 table.

$5’s— workhouse chip 400 minimum. 500 or 600 is even better if you get a full table.

$25’s— 200 to give plenty of extra bank for deep games.

$100’s—100 is over kill. If you get 20-40 that is plenty.

Nailed it. Except get $20’s. Don’t be a heathen.

Dangerous question. :P

I like @Rhodeman77 's suggestion.

Don't overbuy blind chips. If ones will only be used for blinds a rack per table is good.

You want lots of fives for 1-2, 1-3, but you may want even more 25s for 2-5.

If it were me
1*100, 5*400, 25*400, 100*100.

Smaller set.
1*80, 5*240, 25*240, 100*40

I like the idea of 20s for small stakes. But 25s make a more efficient workhorse in 2-5 and up.

To me, for those stakes, a bare minimum set would be: 40 5s for each player, 10 1s for each player, 10 25s for each player, and enough hundreds to cover the biggest expected bank you'll need for a given night. So for 9 players:
90 x 1
360 x 5
90 x 25
and enough hundreds to get the set to manage your biggest nights.

A more comfortable set (especially if you don't have a dedicated dealer) would probably be:
200 x 1
600 x 5
200 x 25
and as many hundreds as necessary to top off the bank.

Strongly disagree. $25s for 1/2 and up. $20s for micro stakes.

Do your players start buying in to larger stake games with $25 bills? Because THAT would tilt me
 :ROFLMAO:

1000:

200 x $1
600 x $5
100 x $25
100 x $100

1200:

200 x $1
600 x $5
300 x $25
100 x $100

I prefer $20s generally, but maximize bank with $25s.

what's the most money your 9-player game is ever likely to see on the table? you don't need $10k of bank if players aren't in for over $1,000 each.
