Just arrived home to Germany. In my luggage, 3599 chips & one dealer button.

The chips were picked up in Ogdensburg, NY. Drove with them to Toronto (230 miles). Flew to Frankfurt and took the train to my home city (4092 miles).

That makes 3599 chips traveling 4322 miles = 15,554,878 chip miles. Just a bit over 1/6 of the distance from the earth to the sun. It feels that way too. Let's just say I'm glad to be back! Also, thanks to everyone I've traded with here over the past few months - shipping to the US saved a lot in shipping fees. :)

Hence the question, how many chips have you transported, and how far?

(OP edited for km - miles conversion error)

 :ROFLMAO: that's certainly an impressive number! Love the new terminology, too -- over 25 million CM.

I suspect nobody will be able to top Larry's recent move to Florida (approximately 900 million CM). Care to run the actual numbers for us, @pltrgyst ?

:D

Last Christmas I took 2k chips, 4 decks of cards and 4 chip racks from Iowa to Vienna. I had about 800 of them in my backpack/carry-on, and they look pretty suspicious going through the xray. Once I saw them on the screen I knew my bag would get searched (and it did).

haha, Yes both of my checked bags were searched. The chips must have looked strange on the scanner ;)

Not quite 900 million! Roughly 1000 miles for 100,000 chips in 13 hours, so 100,000,000 CM. The van was awfully heavy that day...

I flew to Toronto from Atlanta this week and picked up 2,000 Paulson Pharoah's. I was able to put them all in my carry-on, which was then heavy as hell, but I didn't want to risk checking them. I was anticipating a lot of questions at customs, but I wound up just breezing through. My bag was opened after x-ray to confirm what was in the bag. That took all of 2 minutes and I was then on my way. Customs officer asked if I had anything to declare. I told him "nothing over the $800 limit" and he waived me on.

As a side I did some research beforehand. Duty %s are based on the tariff code within the harmonized tariff schedule. The code for poker chips falls under games and toys and is 9504.90.60 and it is free of any duty, regardless of amount, as long as the chips are for personal use. I confirmed this with customs over the phone, but it never came up at the airport.

Here's the chips stacked in my hotel room after I made the exchange in the hotel lobby. It was sort of fun watching people check us out while we were sitting there at a table stacking and counting all the chips and then counting out the money I was paying for them. Had to look like some sort of deal was going down! LOL

No where near Larry's numbers but every summer I transport maybe 15,000-20,000 chips between Az and Denver. It's about half a truck bed full. At least this summer I have Forrest to bring in much of the new stuff from MN. :)
