I could not find a picture of the jetons, but I went to the casino's website and pulled this picture

It sounds like they were buying jetons very similar to the 1000 (blue) and exchanging them for real chips or adding to racks. Either way, they supposedly won 3.66M euro and were ordered to only pay back 850K euro, leaving a nice profit. Of course, they also received FRB comps from the casino during the year long heist.

Guo, as the jeton expert, any ideas where they were getting these for 10 euro cost?

And how do they not notice 3600+ extra 1000 euro jetons? Or even a rack? One would think they get a decent count at some point.

I suppose it is possible they were playing "English Roulette" which did not use jetons, so maybe they got some speed checks, said they were 1000 euro and added them in?

Either way, a cautionary tale of inventory controls gone bad.

I read that story recently, and my initial impression was that this was just the same ol' roulette scam. Play roulette when the value is low, pocket the chips, then use the same chips for a higher value game later on. Similar to the discussion here.
