Hi my name is John.

I play poker with my friends and my dad weekly. I recently purchased a cheap set with denominations to use with my buddies. I was shocked at the poor quality of the chips, even though they get the job done. I am not new to poker, but I have started to run my own games and am looking to upgrade my table, and luckily have found this forum. Looking forward to meeting everyone and talking some poker

Also, I am looking for advice on what chips would make sense for me to purchase at a reasonable budget of ~$400. My buddies and I play $1-2 with usually at least 3-4 rebuys. Thanks for any advice!

Hello! What's the max buy-in amount? If you guys are playing these stakes you can afford a larger budget for chips imo

Welcome!

If you make a thread with a details people can probably give you more tailored advice, but I'd figure you're capped at 50~75c a chip with that budget. Tina's are probably the best option in that range, but definitely try to get your hands on some to see/feel them out before buying a whole set. Measure twice cut once and all that.

I have been reading through many threads and a lot of people recommend purchasing samples. Is there a good spot to get my hands on a bunch of different types at a good price?

Hello and welcome to PCF! Ceramics might make sense for that budget. I would check out Tina chips too for a good bang for your buck.

Where is the best place to shop for chips? Do most people create orders or buy second hand? Appreciate any help!
I went full custom from @BR Pro Poker. They are great quality. Br Pro does ceramic chips. Broken arrow runs group buys with a variety of designs through Tina that are shipped from China. That would be what @springbox is referring. Those are also ceramic chips. At your budget, ceramics from Tina would be your best bet at about 46¢ a chip. Here is a picture of my chips.
